Just out of curiosity what complex are you moving into?

And is it a matter of the complex doesn't allow any pets at all? I've found if they allow cats, you can usually get away with having a cat and not saying anything or having to pay any extra rent.

Sorry it took so long to reply...

It's not really a "complex". It's a "4-plex" owned by a family. All four apartments are ground level, it's like one huge ranch that has four apartments. There is a cluster of them on the street. Apparently they were all owned by one person back in the day, but now they're owned by lots of people.
The guys that own ours just rent out the 4 apartments in the building... so I'm fairly sure he would notice if there happened to be a cat sitting in the window. He comes to mow the grass at least once a week, and on different days...

I'm hoping that if he sees we're good tenants he'll let us get a cat. He really wants people to stay around (two of the other apartments have had the same people for over 15 years!)... so if he likes us maybe it'll happen...

Congrats, Sarah!!
I am so excited for you. I sympathize re: the cat issue. Can you have a dog that just ran in my bedroom with a chewed up tube of toothpaste? Probably not. Anyway, wish I could be there to help you move. Take care and enjoy your new home.
