Family issues always suck, but they become especially apparent when illnesses and deaths come about. I'm not really speaking of your situation because I just don't know it that well, aside from what you wrote here.
But I don't understand why death and illness wouldn't bring people closer together rather than push them further apart. Or, at the very least, expose the schisms that are already there. My family's dysfunction is very apparent most of the time, and I shudder to think about the aftermath once one of my parents go. It's been bad enough with aunts, uncles, and grandparents so far.
