*tap tap* ... is this thing on?

I seem to be one of those knitters who would rather knit than write about knitting. It's been over a year since I updated this thing; plenty of knitting happened in the interval, but haven't felt compelled to blog about it.

But here's a project which I'm both relieved to have finished and pleased enough to share: the Yggdrasil Afghan, by Lisa ( Read more... )

please can i knit something else now, blanket, cable, knitting

Gorgeous! :)

I'm currently working on my Very First Sweater, a seamless raglan pullover for my best friend. I did the BO for the torso last night, and have started on a sleeve today.

Oh, handsome!

The border... A width of cabled lattice knitted-on around, then stockinette knitted in the round, then a width of cables-and-leaves knitted-on around, then more stockinette in the round, then another cabled lattice? Yes? Were you able to work those lattices without a cable needle, or was it really as much fussing with a cable needle as it looks like?

The yarn substitution looks like it worked very well! And I agree -- I would definitely injure myself, if I were to attempt all that in cotton.

I use a crochet hook - much easier to grab the cable stitches, and they don't fall off it as easily as off a cable needle. I've managed to master gripping both the cable needle and knitting needle in my right hand - yay, dexterity!

And yes, that's the way the borders work.

I'm a sucker for cables, and that is a really shiny blanket. Stunning stuff!

That's just gorgeous. I've got it in my queue but it's daunting. How difficult did you find it?

It's not difficult, technique-wise. If you can make cables and knit an edging onto an existing piece of work, you can do it. But it takes a long, long time to finish, and long stretches of it (the stockinette panels) are pretty boring.
