So Oliver, along with his dad and fiance were thought killed in a boat accident when Oliver washed up on the island that molded him into the Green Arrow. His fiance happened to be the sister of Laurel, who is the future Black Canary, and also Oliver's ex.

This is his dead fiance who will be showing up in flashbacks (for the time being)
