It is what it is

This has been a terrible 'past' week. Its Sunday night (American time) as I type this. Last Monday night at about a quarter to six pm, a dear friend who lives literally a block away, collapsed in his garage after trying to intercede an altercation his 16yo stepson (who's mom is one of my best friends) was having with his 15 year old girlfriend. argh. that's pretty much mum's exact scenario with not a great outcome. so i guess you didn't start in on "the same thing happened to my aunt..."

that's just horrible and i can certainly feel for them. i hope the kids don't feel it was their fault though. those aneurisms just sit there waiting to go don't they. lucky for them you guys were all so nearby and able to help. but i guess there's times when being remote can suck. though mum was right in the middle of a big city, only a short distance to several hospitals.

Hi Barb. I remember your mom's illness with such clarity. Dad would call every single night with an update. I remember him being terribly concerned about her being intubated for so long. I guess that alone comes with its own set of horrible problems. I remember him being so upset (as we all were) about her condition. Aneurisms are devastating. And yes, being remote does suck. You don't want to have a catastrophic illness and have to place your life in the hands of a 'medical review committee' who decides wether or not to medivac you to (in our case) Honolulu. We were all so angry that night. His was a 'life' for god's sake (and a young one at that).

that must really be devastating, to be evaluated and ruled out of being medivacced. there just really should be a service that covers everyone as necessary because it's a bunch of islands for heaven's sake.

fingers crossed for the best xx.
