Well fuck a duck

Apparently, the outlook.pst file on my computer with all of my contact information was corrupted and for some reason iTunes decided to overwrite (without prompting me) all the existing information on my iPhone with the information in that file ( Read more... )

BTW, I'm sending that failed drive off to Seagate today... sorry about the delay, I've been busy/sick.

No worries, I think you had like 15 days or something and thanks, I appreciate you taking care of that for me.

Indeed, although the only form of Russian Roulette I play is dating their women, and even then only with significant caution.

If you had iTunes making backups of your phone, you may be able to recover your contacts from the phone backup.

Yeah tried that, the backup file was overwritten essentially at the same time so its a no go.

You don't have your Outlook data backed up?

Not really, I'm sure I have a copy of an old PST with most of this info/data somewhere in my archives.

I only use Outlook to access my contacts and calendar info on my iPhone and up until yesterday I'd never seen iTunes overwrite any data on my iPhone without prompting me first.

So more than anything my outlook and iTunes data was the backup, rather than requiring a backup, if that makes sense.

Aren't you a technology professional of some kind? Surely you can't say that aloud without breaking into tears.

Eh, I have an archived pst somewhere (with my generic system backups) but seeing as I moved halfway around the planet last week, I'm a little disorganized at the moment so backing up the phone to my laptop seemed acceptible.

Afterall, in theory, if either failed I could restore from the other, which meets standard practices, and in every past instance, iTunes prompted before overwriting any data.

1. Drink a bottle of whiskey
2. Start calling all the numbers sequentially and ask to whom you're talking
3. Lose lots of friends
4. Profit?

Eh, I figured I'd just broadcast an SOS and see who responds.

Those who don't respond well, guess it is time to move on.

google apps yo!

solves that problem, gets rid of PSTs, allows syncing to iphones, ipads, android devices and sooooo much more..

and then it is all backed up nicely in the cloud.. so when you add an item to the iphone it syncs to google, and then if you want you can sync back down to outlook...

just a thought..

I suspect, though that the illuminati might not take kindly to having such a massive repository of contacts in such an insecure environment... I for one wouldn't want to be mistaken for someone important and iced because some other dude I've never met used the wrong fork at a state dinner in Sau Paulo.
