Arms!!!

Here we have the second in my series of "expensive hobbies" posts.  While this next hobby is not exactly new, my involvement in it is certainly expanding with the increased funds available.  It's probably my favorite hobby, and certainly the most controversial...

I had also been considering a shotgun - either the Remington 870 or the Mossberg. The price is right, and it is an excellent choice of defensive weapon. (Obviously not for carry. Unless you wear a huge trenchcoat or a nun's habit ( ... )

I'm surprised the SOCOM II is California legal, being that it has the ability to accept 20-round magazines. Does Springfield make a version that has a fixed 10-round mag? As for the SPAS-12, you can't buy it new, but used ones are regularly available on gun auction sites online, such as GunsAmerica, GunBroker, and AuctionArms. You can also occasionally find them in classified ads - I once saw a listing for one in Reno on Craigslist. Renting a machinegun is pretty pricey. Prepare to spend a lot on ammo, as you'll burn through it fairly quick.

And as for the concealed shotgun, don't forget about Nuns With Guns!

Impact Guns lists the M1A SOCOM as California legal; I guess I just assumed the SOCOM II is as well, since they're pretty similar.

We can rent a machinegun here for $20 flat, plus range fee. (I've done it once before with some high school friends who visited.) The ammo is definitely pricey; last time we just fired two 20-round magazines each, then they swapped us out for a handgun after we were finished at no extra charge. Came out to maybe $50 each.

I guess the SOCOM II is CA-legal, since it does not have a pistol grip or a flash hider. Hmm. Well, go for it! What machinegun did you rent?

That's...a lot of guns. If we ever need to start a revolution, I'll remember we can just swing by your place to arm up.

I'd like to try shooting some of those sometime, so I guess it's another excuse to visit you. I lack a car, though. Maybe post-graduation road trip if I can find someone to go with.

If your third hobby is what I think it is, you should probably friends lock your next post.

I don't think it is what you think it is. When someone spends that much money on what you're thinking of, it's called a "habit," not a hobby. Although, my third hobby may solve the problem you mention ;)

I realize it's not, but I really want the third hobby post to be Tobacco, just to go for the trifecta.

And of course we have to go blasting some weekend. Do you know when you'll be moving out to NV/CO?
