Link Character Personality:
In few words, Demona is the world’s most dangerous gargoyle and she hates all humans, enough to plan mass genocide. But she is also a very conflicted and tortured soul.
On the surface, she appears to be the typical Disney villain, trying to eliminate the "poison" of mankind from the planet, so in the end she could rule everyone else. However, during the whole show, Demona shows us there is a lot more to her than just hatred and crazy talk about wanting the demise of an entire species. She is actually one of the most complex characters in the show.
Unlike Xanatos, who’s motivated by the desire to have more power, money and immortality, Demona simply wants to soothe the pain she has suffered over a thousand years, living alone and guilty of her actions. And the only way she found to calm this constant growing anger inside her is to kill the root of said anger: the Humans.
While it seems that she wants to destroy humanity to accomplish this, her actions usually seem to contradict that seeing they follow a path to allow others to overthrow her plans; and unlike the usual monologues the bad guys give about their actions, Demona’s monologues aren’t for show, because they usually not only show how much conflicted she is, but also show others a way to overpower every single one of her plans. And she doesn’t even seem to notice
While Demona doesn’t realize it, deep within her soul she that humanity is not fully to blame for her pain. Her plans are nearly realized in at the end - with that virus she could wipe out mankind, leaving the world safe for her kind. She took 500 years and she was almost there. No, not almost, she was THERE. But after so much planning, Demona practically tells Goliath how to spoil her plans.
Again, Demona understands why things have happened on a subconscious level. To admit it to herself would shatter her mind and drive her crazy, but deep down, she knows that destroying all of humanity is wrong, probably aided by the fact she once defended humans too. So, to stop it from happening, she gave Goliath the tools needed to defeat her. (THIS WAS MENTIONED BY THE SHOW’S CREATOR, it’s not fanon).
Gargoyle’s motto ("Gargoyles protect") is still there. She wishes to protect; unfortunately the years have not been kind to her and taught her that Human race is ultimately cruel. So instead of protecting them, she decided to protect her kind; and the only way she found to protect her kind was to eliminate the threat.
And to achieve this, she is willing to kill anyone who stands in her way, and this means other Gargoyles as well. If she has to kill Goliath, she will and she wants to because she knows how far he is willing to go to protect that race she hates so much. That makes him extremely dangerous for her and her kind. She often called him the “Downfall of gargoyles” and she really believes following his viewpoint will be the death of them all.
Every time Goliath and Demona met during the first part of the first season, she constantly tried to reason with him. By the second part she pretty much gave up on trying to do so, especially because of Elisa Maza’s influence and because she came to understand he’d always meddle in everything she did - so her best option was to kill him. He was a loose end that would destroy all other Gargoyles by protecting the humans, so he and his clan had to die.
Elisa Maza is definitely the human she hates the most, and it’s not because she is like the humans Demona met; quite the opposite. Elisa simply does not live up to Demona's beliefs about humans being evil, traitorous, and hostile towards gargoyles (and everyone), and that worries her tremendously. To add, Elisa and Goliath seem to share a relationship, and this makes Demona jealous.
While the real Goliath is currently a disappointment, Demona is still very monogamous; the idea of mating with someone else but him does not please her, however Goliath on other hand pretty much decided Demona and he are a thing of the past and not worth mentioning.
The fact that she still loves Goliath is proven after she gets together with Thailog, who was Goliath's clone and the male of her dreams, who loved her and again called her once more “Angel of the Night”, yet shared her desire to kill Humans.
Unfortunately, he also proved to be a disappointment and proved Demona how lonely she was. She was the only gargoyle who could see that, in order for the Gargoyles to thrive, humans had to die; she was the only one who was willing to accept the truth and the only one who was fighting for it.
The one exception of her hatred towards Goliath’s clan is Angela, whom she has strong feelings for, but wasn't yet enough to turn her away from her path. Even the biological connection matters to Demona, although she would never admit to it, as such a thing is a human trait and atypical to her species.
She is far more human than she wishes to be, which probably happened because she has lived among them for so long, even if hating them.
First and foremost, Demona is her own worst enemy. Literally. The episode when the future Demona came back to the past was what made everything happen, and if it wasn’t for it probably Demona would have changed a lot. And you can find it stupid, but truthfully, the older Demona remembers this episode in her past and she STILL follows the exact same footsteps that ruin it all.
It’s not like she could change it, though. That’s the past for you, irony at its best as well!
Considering this, as well as repeated incidents throughout Demona's life, she is far more a victim of fate than she is an agent of evil. When she met Future!Goliath, he gave her no advice but “do nothing and don’t worry about this”; it’s impossible for someone not to worry about the massacre of their family. The memories haunted her and of course she’d do something.
She tried to change the future. She decided to do something, because she felt like her Future self also did nothing to prevent those events. Unfortunately, it was fated to fail. Demona likely realized, at the very moment that she ran away to hide on the beach that she had brought the fate she wanted to avoid.
But even after the loss of her clan, and the subsequent discovery of Goliath atop the castle, Demona had yet to fully give herself over to her hatred of humanity.
Despite "creating" the first Hunter when she slashed the face of a young boy, Demona didn’t kill him and she showed the same mercy towards the young Canmore, sparing the boy’s life rather than killing him outright; she even told him to just be glad else he’d be killed.
Even years later after abandoning humans entirely and sworn never to ally with humans again, Demona preferred to save young Macbeth and Gruoch instead of killing her mortal enemy, the Hunter. The two humans meant nothing to her personally, but she saved them regardless.
The point of turn was when Weird Sisters came along to manipulate her. This spell made Demona what she is now. Without it, she could never have gone back in time to manipulate her younger self, nor could she have saved Goliath from he curse it was laid upon him and his clan.
Living with Macbeth made her once again quite friendly with humans. She is seen hugging him, playfully speaking with him and, above all, smile and laugh, even if she still trusted no one. Her hatred was forgotten until the night she saw Macbeth trying to get rid of her to go meet the council in secret. Immediately she realized something was up and she eavesdropped on a conversation between Macbeth, his most trusted advisor, and his son, and by what she heard, she came to the rushed conclusion that Macbeth would kill them all.
Again she was betrayed. AGAIN by the humans. And so, she led her clan away to help the English. Funny thing was that the English didn’t keep their part of the deal and STILL slain all her people. And for the second time in such little short time, Demona was betrayed AND she was alone now. Alone in the world, believing she was the last Gargoyle left.
All because she trusted Humans.
Of course from that point, anger and hatred consumed her, fuelled in part by her repressed guilt from the first massacre. She knows deep down inside that she is responsible in part for the Wyvern Massacre, but is unwilling to consciously admit it, and makes the human race her scapegoat, to avoid facing the blood on her hands that would most likely drive her mad. She also knows it was her fault to hastily run to betray Macbeth, so she had even more blood on her hands.
The next thousand years weren’t easy. She spent that time alone, watching the world around her change, and never finding more of her kind. Worse, she saw mankind's "evolution" throughout the ages, living through such terrible things as the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition (which no one expected, of course 8D), both World Wars, and countless other conflicts. To Demona, her worst fears were confirmed. If humans cannot even get along with their own kind, then what chance is there for peacefully coexistence with gargoyles? Bitter, angry, and by herself, Demona was forced to remain always hidden. Always alone.
Demona was also hunted by the Hunters throughout the centuries, even though they had no actual idea why they were chasing the Gargoyle. In Paris, it was Charles who attacked her, not the other way around - she was protecting herself and in response they called her “The Demon”.
She had all reasons she needed to want to kill Humans. They were an unnecessary plague and they were her main threat.
Demona's agenda in the modern day seems to have changed very little, as she still desires the destruction of the human race. Her actions further illustrate her tormented nature. Demona truly believes in the worst of humanity, not because she needs an excuse, but because she truly cannot see the good in them; she sees that as a façade the humans keep so they won’t kill themselves for not being the pointless race they are.
And how can even a gargoyle live among these BEASTS?
At present, Demona continues to bitterly hate humans, and wants the entire species destroyed. That’s a point, a strong one.
But she is more a victim of delusion and manipulation than an entity of true evil. Given the right circumstances, Demona could very easily begin to atone for what she has done. But first, she must admit the truth to herself. For Demona to ever truly become whole again, she must accept responsibility for what happened in 994 and consequently everything that followed.
It was even planned by the show's creator to make a special comic about Demona to finally bring her some peace; while it was never created, it was said such thing wouldn't be particularly difficult because Demona offers others the means to make her see where she went wrong.
Unlike what Goliath thinks and says, Demona still loves and she is very affectionate. She uses names as “My love”, “Darling” and she would give her life for Angela. She also truly wants a clan of her own, so she won’t feel alone, but she cannot be part of a clan that accepts humans, therefore she is willing to go as far as cloning.
She will take all steps necessary to get what she wants, even if that includes lying, deceiving, hurting and murdering. She trusts no one, and she is very paranoid, something she learned with time.
Character Abilities you would like to expand on further:
Demona is a gargoyle, so attached to her comes a lot of Gargoyle characteristics.
To learn more about this species you can read here.
Gargoyles came from gargates, a species that had “stone sleep” and it probably came from the dinosaurs. Gargoyles have a greater resistance to the cold and warmth than humans, possibly due to a thicker skin, and seem to be partly warm-blooded and partly cold-blooded (seeing they obtain most of their energy from heat and sunlight during their sleep) - this does not happen with Demona (explained below).
The most famous biological feature of gargoyles is that they turn into "stone" in the daytime, known as "stone sleep”, and obtain energy like that. Demona used to have it, but not anymore. There are other suggested characteristics: their ears seem to have greater reception of noise, they have a highly developed sense of smell, and are able to see during the night perfectly.
All gargoyles are great fighters, using their claws, tail, wings and powerful muscles. They growl and roar. Gargoyles are immensely strong, and can actually scale stone walls or even cut through steel.
However, despite their wings, they are not capable of flying - they can only glide upon air currents. When gargoyles are on the ground, they can "cape" their wings, so these wings are not only extremely powerful but also nimble.
On the ground, the wings are used a projection of their size, often flaring their wings outward to battle, even in cramped spaces to both perceived increase in size and also as an extra weapon (gargoyles slap their enemies with their wings) or shield.
They also use their wings as we use our arms, tapping or pointing with them when it is more convenient.
Aside everything that is common to a gargoyle, there are few other things about Demona.
Weird sister’s spell: immortality and youth
In 1040, Demona was old and wished for strength of her youth, while Macbeth was on the eve of being crushed by Duncan's forces. With the help and influence of the Weird Sisters, the two of them agreed to an alliance in which Macbeth would trade his youth in exchange for Demona's aid in defeating Duncan.
This spell, however, also made Demona and Macbeth immortal, unable to die except by the other's hand, and they are destined to be eternally linked, sharing pain and anguish with no relief until one destroyed the other. Such spell cannot be removed, not even by the Weird Sisters.
Demona and Macbeth are immortal and unable to age. Demona is permanently the equivalent of a thirty-five year old by gargoyle terms, while Macbeth is stuck at fifty-two. When they are in close proximity with each other, they will feel the other's pain, and to a lesser extent, pleasure.
The rate that either of them heals depends on the wound. A severe, or fatal wound, is likely to activate the spell and accelerate the healing, but a small wound will heal at a natural rate.
Puck's Spell of Transformation
Puck's Spell of Transformation is a spell cast by Puck on Demona, as a gift for all the entertainment she provided him for a while.
When Demona summoned Puck through Titania's Mirror, one of her first wishes was that she no longer wanted to turn to stone, because she was far too vulnerable during the day like that. After being released from Demona's clutches by Goliath, Puck decided to grant Demona her wish as a thank you gift for all the fun he had.
Now, Demona becomes a human during the day and a gargoyle by night. The transformation occurs every sunrise and sunset, and is extremely painful, though it only takes few seconds. Demona is 100% human by day, and 100% gargoyle by night (it was asked if she mated as human what would the child be, and it was said it’d be human).
Occasionally, the spell may glitch if Demona gets angry enough by day, and her eyes will glow red.
Magic, science, intelligence
Demona uses magic. Archmage taught her well, even thought he was quiet rude to her. Being able to read magic spells on several languages, and being able to survive through all of the centuries, Demona learned quite a lot about magic and magical items, making use of them most of the time in order to reach her objectives.
As Humanity grew, their science and their knowledge on it, Demona also started to make use of it. With the time on her side, she grew with Humans as it came to scientific research, either genetics, virus, or the best of all: weapons. Demona indeed is seen using a lot of human weapons and she seems rather found of them due to their destructive power.
And to finalize, she managed to mix both together. No one could really do that until this moment (except Titania, who has lived among mortals also to learn about science, but she never mixed the two), and Demona was one of the biggest defenders that magic and science worked the best when together.
She brought back Coldstone, she used the network to cast a curse on every human, and unlimitedly, she created a Virus to wipe out all mankind and would protect her race with magic. Demona is actually amazingly smart and - unlike Goliath, because she had time to learn with time - she makes a huge use out of all arts she can find along with her wits.
Strength
Being a Gargoyle already provides Demona with super-natural strength and speed, but she is one of the strongest Gargoyles alive. She managed to fight Goliath even without weapons, and not many can do that. With the years she has lived, Demona has been constantly on the move and constantly fighting, so she is pretty strong even for a Gargoyle.
Character Weaknesses you would like to expand on further:
Mental weaknesses are probably what Demona has the most. In order to understand them perfectly it’s necessary to have a heavy comprehension of the character’s background and personality, but I’ll try my best to explain them as simple as possible.
Demona is her own enemy in many ways. And that is her biggest weakness. Demona saw her future-self and, aided with the fact that Future!Goliath gave her no support at the time, she grew to dislike the way she was treated by the human she protected, and that ultimately lead to the slaughter of her family. She isn’t weak easy to manipulate (on the contrary), but she was so afraid for herself and her clan, that she jumped right into her destiny and right into what she wanted to avoid. From that point, a chain reaction that Demona cannot accept started and this made the turmoil of emotions inside the gargoyle turn into pure hatred. Every single thing that happens in her life is nothing but yet another reason to cultivate this hatred she has for the humans.
Hatred commands her life. She has no other objectives in her life, and she is immortal. She has lived all her life hating and angry and sad and alone. Demona cannot bear what she is feeling inside and her only way to handle it is through anger towards Humans, who given her more than enough reasons to be the target of said anger and hate. Being controlled so deeply by this rage isn’t good; it turned an actually very sweet female into a total crazy bitch.
She is blinded by her pain. Demona is alone, she feels alone and she went to crazy efforts in order to stop this solitude, but whatever she does, it only brings more and more. She also feels guilty since she was the reason for everything that happened, however she can't accept it because it'll break her. And she is in a world where the (supposed) reason for all her pain, her loneliness, her guilt and her life, is everywhere.
Demona does not trust anyone. While it was partially her fault for what happened between her and Macbeth, even after meeting Thailog she was betrayed. Every person she approached, including her own kind, betrayed her and over the years she just accepted that no one is worth trusting, no matter what.
She is still madly in love with that one Gargoyle she has to kill. Goliath. Who no longer gives two damns about her and was dating Elisa Maza - gargoyles are VERY monogamous, and Demona cannot accept that the love of her life traded her for some human girl. Both Elisa and Goliath are also Demona’s weakness and she revolves a lot around them, out of obsession with ruining and killing them.
Another weakness is Angela, Demona’s daughter. It’s a very human emotion, but Demona loves her child, even if Angela distrusts her. It pains her to know that Angela can’t see things through Demona’s eyes and understand that all her mother is trying to do is to save her.
Physically, it’s hard to tell what Demona’s weaknesses are. She is damn strong. And hell, she is immortal. She can be knocked out, but you’d have to be Goliath. Only Goliath was able to handle Demona. She does NOT turn into stone anymore and she uses magic.
Unfortunately, as a human, Demona is just that, a human. She doesn’t have her gargoyle power and while she still regenerates and is immortal, she feels pain and her body reacts to it: you knock her out when she is human and you’ll fine (you can also knock her out when she is a gargoyle, but that is harder. A lot harder.). A bad a thing about that spell, besides the glitch, is that she feels excruciating pain every time she turns: every night and every morning.
Demona can also be imprisoned as long the cell is strong enough. She isn’t imperious to electricity or fire - like I said, that kind of stuff hurts (does not kill her, though). And the problem with her immortality spell is that she feels MacBeth’s pain when she is near him and vice-versa.
Finally, it’s not a weakness but it’s something to note. Demona does NOT fly, she glides through air currents. Someone shoots at her, she goes down and gets hurt. With no wind, there is no way for her to escape through air.
[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]
What abilities will your character retain in Soul Campaign?
- Wings and the ability to glide through wind
- Tail (prehensile, moves as it wishes, used as whip)
- Claws, eyes (able to see during the night), earing ability, teeth, roaring, great sense of smell (like a dog's). I think it's silly to take this characteristics away from her, because if someone apped a dog-character or a lion-character, you couldn't take them away.
- Her fighting ability (such as with weapons, hand to hand combat, aerial combat)
- Her eyes still turn red when she is angry (I don't think it's necessary for her to lose this?)
What weaknesses will your character lose or gain in Soul Campaign?
- Lose the immortality and youth spell. Demona can be killed and she will age at a normal rate (gargoyles age slower than humans. I don't know if that will be allowed, so I'm leaving that for you to decide). She won't heal faster like before.
- Will lose Puck's spell. Demona will no longer turn into a human during the day (and so she won't be feeling that horrible pain twice a day).
- Lose her magic abilities - such as spells, potions, mixing magic with technology.
- Her strength, speed, stamina, ability to cope with the cold, will be the same as a human's. She is stronger than a normal human, but she isn't crazy strong like a gargoyle (sort of like a wrestler strength, probably?).
- Her claws won't be able to cut through steel anymore (she can still climb walls as long they are stone, I guess).
- She won't have the stone sleep, even without Puck's spell. She will be a full gargoyle during the night and during the day. No turning into stone, healing during it or absorbing energy from the sun.
The wish Death the Kid made to the BREW in 2009 was to “rescue Death City and stop the waves of Madness from overtaking the world.” By whatever means necessary. Pretend you are the BREW. Why would you choose to bring this character to Death City?
Demona isn't going to help Death City, much less stop the madness waves. Actually, she will try to make it worse. I do not have a reason, as BREW, for why she'd be brought in to help to do something she'd never do.
As her mun, I'd say it's because I think Death City doesn't have enough villains. As Demona, she'd say it's because BREW obviously wanted her to clean this world from humans.
As BREW? I have no idea. What Demona will do won't be in order to help the war or the humans or everyone else and it's clearly everything against what Death the Kid wished for when he asked BREW for help. If it makes it worse, she will do it. She doesn't want this war to end, she wants all and every human dead and gone.
I can make up something like it's because BREW thought Death City has been terribly boring lately and Demona is perfect to change that. Or maybe BREW feels that Shibusen will be winning the war way too soon and it'll be boring. Maybe it brought Demona on mistake. I admit, I didn't truly get this question, because if you are excepting me to give you a hint on how Demona will help Kid's wish to come true, I don't have anything. She will not make or help Death the Kids wish come true. On the contraire.
However, based on the last app, if you want to know why Demona is good in this game and setting and if her skills fit, I can tell you that she has lived 1000 years surviving and fighting; she is a survivor. She knows all there is to know about war and technology. Demona can fight war, yes. Her skills would keep her alive during a war, she is old (very old) and she knows how to defend, fight, manipulate, make schemes and get what she wants. She can wield weapons and use them, most kinds of weapons and all of her abilities make her a really good warrior.
If your character has difficulty verbally communicating or can’t verbally communicate at all (mute or non-humanoid), elaborate on how this will be treated in the game. N/A
[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]
Why is your character a Meister and not a Weapon?
The most obvious thing is that there is just no way in hell Demona will ever allow anyone to weild her. She is too proud and she dislikes and distrusts everyone, so she'd refuse to be anyone's weapon and she would never be able to go into combat. And that would pretty much get me stuck with the character.
Demona is strong and she is amazing in combat. Aiding this are her physical abilities (the wings, the tail, her strength and training). She is an amazing warrior and she will be most useful in combat when wielding a weapon than being wield.
What is your character’s Meister Ability? Why?
Feral Soul - due to her animalistic characteristics
Rapid Recovery - since she used to be immortal
Soul Rage - lots and lots of anger within this one
[ SOUL INFORMATION ]
Describe your character’s soul with six adjectives.
Angry, impetuous, lonely, hurt, strong, guilty
What does your character’s soul look like? Be creative.

Provide a First Person style sample in the form of a post to the DEMISE network.
[Soft female voice. If she didn’t sound so amused, it’d be easy to tell she is incredibly pissed due to the current circumstances]
Do tell me, are you actually helping this world and its war? I am sure all of you are dying [she loves to use this word when addressing to humans] to go back to your little homes, however, it’s no where in the contract saying you’ll be returned once the war is over and won. It’s a promise, yes, but promises can be broken so easily, can they not?
Are we supposed to believe them? [Demona doesn’t laugh, however she hums]
So, do tell me more about your war and the Witches.
Provide a Third Person sample set during the last minutes on their world and/or their first few moments in the Kishin Chamber.
Please make this at least three paragraphs. We want to see how well you grasp your character’s voice.
