As far as I know, there is only one general law of communication: you cannot not communicate. I've always thought that having just one law was either pretty arrogant, that we only need one, or says little about the credibility of our field as an academic discipline, that we don't know enough about communication to figure out any others. I've been speculating in my research diary/journal that, based upon general communication theory and some postmodern thinking, there are a few more universal principles worthy of the title "law." I'm teasing those out in my head and on paper for a future work.
...not earth-shattering, but perhaps significant to future communication pedagogy.
