What are the qualities of a really good, visually appealing book cover? What really makes you stop and look at that one book on the shelf?

My art prof friend and I are designing the cover to my book, and I need some advice.

So here I am in D.C. with two colleagues and my Dean. So far, so good. Walked about 6-7 miles today around town and the mall. Took a quick tour of the National Art Gallery. Going to D.C. tomorrow morning with the Dean and two other faculty. We're going to do some research on grants while we're there. We're all part of a grant-writing committee. Should be interesting to be in close communications with the Dean for two days. It's going to totally mess up my final exam schedule, but I think I have things figured out.

Wow, um, very stimulating house party. Only three couples showed, including us, but 6 people was enough. I don't think the hot tub could have fitted more than that anyway. Just got word that I have a new publication! It is an old paper I wrote on the possibilities and problems of online scholarship, and I mentioned it to a friend who is an editor of an international online journal and he wanted it for his journal. Going to Raleigh for a private house party tonight. Five couples will be there. I just don't think everyone is going to fit into the hottub, but the hosts say we will fit! Sounds like fun to me! I guess I'll be getting my groove on tonight.

I was just asked by the UNC-Chapel Hill people if I minded having my presentation being video-taped tomorrow since a few of the faculty members won't be able to be present. Lovely! I've never been this stressed before -- not even during any of my many moves across the state, oral comprehensives, dissertation defense, A's pregnancy, job interviews, new jobs, nothing.
