to me, i think you should pick whichever style that doesn't need uber manipulation (sp?) & products. just basically letting your hair do it's natural thing. i would only prefer for you to grow out your bangs, but let your hair free and wild and style accordingly. kinda like how natural headed black folks would put their hair in a 'fro with a elastic band around the crown to pull it back away from the face. iono....
i tried growing out my bangs once...it lasted two months? maybe three! i love my bangs & am unhappy with my hairline. i have a tiny forehead & lots of fuzzy "baby" hairs, and it's just not a good look. i was thinking side-swept bangs, but that's gonna be major upkeep.
and totally YES, i'm all about natural curl. that's pretty much what i'm doing now, except with a couple of bleached streaks i dyded purple. my issue is some serious helmet hair! my hair gets all flat, and short of using a ton of products & time, it becomes a frizzy, poufy triangle when i get to wear i'm going.
that's the one that made me think to look up "scene hair." try it - i dare you. it's hilarious!
yeah i'm thinking of a radical change, like some great big chunky bangs, chopping the majority of my hair off, but just leaving a few looong tendrils on the front and/or sides to create some sort of ~dramatic~ effect.
I like #4, but I am a horrible judge of hair things. (Even though I totally want sceneish hair and my hairdresser talks me out of it every time. For a good reason though because I am too lazy to bother with the upkeep and she knows it.)
as far as upkeep is concerned, i'd do 100% zero of it. the only thing i'll do it brush out my bangs. that's why i'm focusing on curly styles. i straightened my hair for a few years, and it never looked right. my hair is too coarse & thick!
you make a very good point! i'm mos def NOT going to be straightening anything other than brushing out my bangs every morning. as long as i keep them trimmed short, i can maintain. and really, i imagine i'll combine certain aspects of these hairdos into one monster mish-mash.
i have the texture of photo 1, but since i wear a helmet so much, i don't have as tight a curl anymore. actually, my hair is a combo of 1 & 4. here's a cellphone picture i took of my hair yesterday: http://twitpic.com/18sjrs

i bet choppy layers w/yr short bangs & some long pieces left in would look so good on you!

i hope it ends up looking good (i'm sure it will. my hairstylist rocks!), because it takes SO LONG to grow out my hair!
