Wants to take Canada away from the Canadians!? (Somehow, I didn't hear this one.)

Madness.

He says he'll use economic pressure to force Canada into a North American Union.

And military pressure to wrest Greenland from Denmark, eh?

As for renaming the Gulf of Mexico, that notion reminds me of a folk expression, that "The cat can have kittens in th' oven, but that don't make 'em [American] biscuits."

That will be to control it---and any and all oil found in its seabed, I have to suppose.

He has wanted to disband NATO; I'm thinking now he has more reasons than one and all similar although not identical....

If you haven't yet encountered it, read a book by American author Sinclair Lewis titled, "It Can't Happen Here."

He says he'd be willing to use the military in Panama and Greenland- though not against Canada- that would be too much....

I don't understand why he would want to disband NATO- when it pretty much ensures that Europe remains subject to American power and policy- but perhaps I'm missing something. I suppose I must be.

Fascism can happen anywhere. But maybe, with history to warn us, we'll be better able to resist it this time round.....

That's just Trump doing what Trump does best: sowing discord. None of those things are likely to happen.

Is there a hidden agenda? Is he being very smart or very stupid? On the surface it seems crazy to upset nations that count as friends and allies of the USA.....

He's strumming the Ballad of Imperialism. It's a melody Americans like to hear! He's always made a lot of outrageous statements.

Of course, I am of the opinion that Trump is almost irrelevant at this point. I think he's nothing more than the useful idiot that Musk/Thiel et al are using to achieve political dominance. I think Trump knows this, too-hence his buckling on the H-1B visa issue. The real Augustus Caesar Msk/Thiel et al. are grooming for perpetual Presidency is J.D. Vance (whom you'll note has been very, very silent since the election.)

Yes, he's keeping very quiet, so quiet I've no idea who he is or what he stands for- which is presumably the whole idea.

Musk has been messing in the affairs of my country. He has made a point of insulting our (admittedly dreadful) Prime Minister- and courting and then alienating Nigel Farage- the right-wing populist politician with the highest public profile. I don't get his strategy either......

My stupid vendor was making jokes about it on our call today (after being told it is not appreciated).

Part of me is like, "this is his normal fever-dream rambling" but if anybody is stupid enough to go after a heretofore European ally and provoke WW3, it's this particular jackass.

BTW--I wonder what the story is on how Panama as a country came into being? (I definitely need to look this up as it's been too long since I studied it in school.)

I took a look at the history- and if I remember right Panama was originally part of Colombia- and the canal was started by the French but finished by the USA. When Trump says he'd be taking back what was originally American property he's not entirely wrong- though it would be a contentious, provocative thing to do.

I thoroughly agree about it being a contentious and provocative thing to do...
Ah, are we 100% certain that Trump actually said this in a serious fashion and wasn't making a joke of some sort?

It's a pity the news media isn't interested in being objective with Trump long enough to actually ask him WHY he'd want to do something like that. Oh no. They'd much rather keep on treating him like a modern day Hitler.
A man that was nominated for FOUR Nobel Peace awards.
FOUR of them....
Now that's food for thought isn't it?

Comparing Trump to Hitler is a way of avoiding any proper investigation of who he is and what he stands for.

Canada as a country is in trouble.
Just so you will know this: Trump ain't the only one who's eyeballing Canada. Problem is the NAME of that other country will NEVER ever be spoken or written about in any news article the general public will ever be allowed to see: CHINA.

I was puzzled by the sudden resignation of Justin Trudeau. I assume there were things going on that didn't appear on the surface.

ASSUME??? HA!
When it comes to politics on the north American continent, you can be absolutely certain of one thing only:
There's always lots of stuff going on underneath the surface that the general public is never allowed to find out about.
