//024// three thousand miles from home

Sometimes it feels like I've been here for so long I can hardly imagine what it would be like to go back home. Wouldn't it seem just a little bit more boring? But, of course, everybody says you'll lose your memories when you go home. I think that's what happened the one time I did, but nobody really knows for sure if that's what happens every ( Read more... )

Not as long as some people, but longer than I would have guessed.

I can't say I know exactly how you feel, but maybe I have some idea. This place doesn't leave you with a lot of reassurances, does it?

No, it really doesn't. Generally the sky is blue and things fall when you drop them, but not always.

If there are unfinished responsibilities left in that world, departing should be all the more important.

That's true. It's just hard to chose between being able to live freely with my friends and doing important things.

Even for their sake?

I would do almost anything for my friends. They're my family.

I left and came back once. Didn't remember this place when I was there, did remember everything when I came back. I don't actually hate it here, but missing everyone hurts so much I wish I was home.

I'd be happy home was be less boring than here, but I have a feeling it won't be. And actually I'm bored here A LOT, though maybe that's because I've been kind of slacking off.

I know most people aren't like me when it comes to the City versus home. Boring just means nothing bad is happening, so I can be okay with that. What have you been slacking off on?

Just...I guess I've pretty much accepted there isn't anything I can do to get home under my own power, or anything I can do to stop the curses. I mean, sure nobody else has done so yet, but...I don't think that would have stopped the previous Blue Beetle from trying, and he didn't even have any powers. I've basically been hanging out enjoying myself--I mean, still trying to help people, but...on a small scale, not with the really big problems we all have.

There is definitely that feeling, I mean, going on patrol is good and all, but dealing with an alien invasion kind of puts thing into perspective. Is stopping one mugging really worth anything when we're still stuck here?

When I came back, I remembered everything about the City.

That's good. It makes things easier, I think, and maybe leaves a little hope that the memories are still there when you're home.

Yeah! I think... if you're here for a long time, you should remember it. Everything changes you.

I know, I've been here for a long time and met a lot of people, I don't want to go back to the person I was before I had all those experiences.
