This is mine. This is his.

Jilly has really gone far into grokking ownership. She likes to constantly tell me which thing is hers, and which is Philip's. She'll even start telling me which thing is mine, and which is Daddy's. It can get a bit monotonous, and I've been fairly consistent with how some things are shared ( Read more... )

I have a friend, who hates pink as I do, who's daughter loves pink... fortunately, said daughter also loves skulls. Hello Kitty Punk, Go! :D

I'm lucky so far in that Daina's fave color is red.

most toddlers love pink. I don't think its so much a girl thing as it is a toddler thing. Kallisti has switched over to purple as her favorite but she definitely adored pink for a while there. So did Khayman and Kell. I think she's picking the pink stuff as hers simply because of toddler rules: If I like it, its mine. Phillip gets whatever is left over, poor boy.

oh and Kallisti is all about familial relationships now. Everything has to have a mommy version, a baby version and hopefully a daddy version. This goes as far as hair bands, soap bubbles and food. I find it funny how the mommy version is always the largest whatever and the daddy is usually mid-sized and differently colored.

HA! Philip has brute strength on his side. Jilly often ends up with what is left over.
I interfere often, but not all the time, to even things up some. I worry that if I interfere too much it's going to end up a big ball of "Philip is bad" in both their eyes and "Mommy will give me whatever I want/I don't have to stand up for myself" in Jilly's eyes.

And yeah... man, I mean, I know that toddlers like pink. I've explained that a billion times to Russell. Why the hell that didn't occur to me as reasoning for Jilly? No idea. I just have been so focused on keeping her from internalizing the media message of this is for girls/this is for boys.

I read my LJ friends list practically every day... not a lot of actual friends on there any more, mostly it's community posts, but I find I always enjoy reading what you post. I guess I've been following your posts about your kids since they were born... it doesn't seem like that long ago but I guess it is, wow! So yeah, I don't comment a lot on most LJ posts but I do read and I just felt moved to tell you what a good job I think you're doing. :) Many many <3's for you and your awesome little family.

LJ is definitely sparse nowadays compared to the yesteryears. Not necessarily a bad thing, but definitely different.
