Slightly cynical, but..people confuse hate and indifference so often that perhaps it's possible that you're trying to convince yourself Person A still cares when really..s/he'd much rather not? Loopholes..are dangerous things to risk putting our hopes, into.

Person A doesn't care, that I know for sure. And I'm not sure I do too, I guess it's just that it crosses my mind from time to time and I can't help but feel um, something that things are left hanging.
But yeah, I'm not putting hopes in it.
