What a nice custom. Thinking about incorporating it in our custom. Can't hurt right?

You didn't mention any Polish traditional food for your New Year's feast.

Do you not make fresh donuts for good luck? I/24 just got back from the grocery store, and picked up the last few things to make a pasty (meat pie), and of course some more cinnamin for the donuts (I've used allot lately making different breads this holiday season), and I laugh at myself every year, when I buy the pickled herring. Our Grandmother told us that whether we ate it or not, we had to have it for New Year's Eve - not use why, but one never questioned our Grandma. None of us like it - AT ALL, so when we buy it every New Year's, it makes us smile and remember our Grandmother warmly. We buy it, let it be in our refrigerator until the date of expiration, then empty it in the Gulf or a local river so the food chain thing can happen. You know?

:) Happy New Year! You should have rung in the new year quite a few hours ago.

I love pickled herring. That made me smile.
And no, no donuts!

The New Year is still a little over an hour away here!
It's 10:55 PM!

Interesting custom, D. Some people I know believe that if they hang a bunch of grapes above their doors (all, but especially the front & back,) they will have good luck throughout the year ;)

Feliz Anonuevo y abrazos fuertes a ti, amiga mia! I just viewed the ecard you sent me & I so enjoyed it, especially the part where the doggie "shared" in the bounty :)

Y Feliz Ano Nuevo a Manolo tambien!

I'm so glad you liked the card.
:)

The grape custom surely reached The Philippines in some form...if you mean the grapes over the doors?

Feliz 2011 y que te traiga sólo lo mehor, amiga nuestra!

Donna, that picture of the Puerta del Sol looks familiar. Have you posted a picture of that building?

Yes, I have posted a picture of that building, probably last March when we went to Madrid with mummm and Robert.

That's actually funny trying to compare the U.S. timing and the chimes.
Hopefully it would be seedless grapes then. :)

It's hard to get seedless grapes in Spain so take the seeds out of the large moscatels I buy.

It IS funny.
