You know what? I just watched all three acts again, and I liked it.
The music is great, and it's a compelling story. You don't become a supervillain without going through some sort of terrible tragedy. You've read enough comics to know that.
I never said I didn't like it. However nobody can force me to accept the sad ending at face value. I've got these nice rose-colored lenses for just such an occasion. That being said, yes it was a fantastic piece of drama, and hoping that the Doc would get the girl was pretty much dumb because Joss Whedon has never EVER allowed a happy couple to remain either happy/couple/or both parts alive.
I know, I know. I didn't realize it was an origin story. I thought it might have been a redemption story. Sounds like there's more on the way eventually, though I can't think of another time (actor strike) when everyone would be available to create more horribleness...
You know what Dr. Horrible reminded me of? This fucking awesome book I read awhile back called "Soon I Will Be Invincible" by Austin Grossman. You should buy it and read it as soon as possible. It will give you much pleasure.

Kind of a letdown Act III, though. Too bad.
