I cycled again today. There is an early afternoon class so Emily H. and I went because I enjoyed it so much the day before. A little bit of it was in hebrew, but all of the important instructions were in english. Emily said that she had a much better time than she thought she would. After two days of working out, my belly is still here... but ( Read more... )

I LOOOVE Kol Haneshamah! Granted I only went there once, but I loved their Friday night service. I have to admit (no offense to the next years of your life), going to HUC for services the next morning was a huge disappointment. I know you are capable of changing that though! And we were probably just there on a bad day.

Can you tell me more about spinning? I've always wondered what it's like. Fill me in!

HUC saturday morning services ARE pretty bad. They are very Classical Reform. Operratic singing, holding one word for five minutes, etc. This makes for a very difficult space to pray, and feel connected to the prayer. The majority of the students in my class are going to be going elsewhere this saturday morning... we aren't fond of classical reform Judaism either. We are going to continue the path that you saw at kutz, for instance, of taking Reform Judaism back to a method of prayer that is actually accessible to everyone, not just opera singers.

Spinning? You hop on a stationary bike and the instructor plays music. He/she will then instruct you on what to do... such as when to turn up or down the resistance, when to peddle standing, etc. Usually they formulate some kind of scenario like, "you are going over a hill... kick up the resistance" and the other day our goal was a bed and breakfast that we were staying at for the night... things like that.

Hello!! Glad to see things are going well. We miss you, but having your brother here softens our pain! (just kidding!) He is behaving nicely! He actually helped me teach Jacob to ride his bike over the last week. With all of the crying, I didn't really think he would do it until next summer (Jacob crying, not Jeff!). I am very touched that a picture of Jacob made the journal. We had dinner with Josh on Wednesday (he was in town for work) and Madison keeps reminding us that you are a rabbi. Enjoy and we'll talk to you soon!
Love-
Aunt Laurie
