This passage was so heart-breaking, poor Ennis:
Howie’s words were like a blow to his heart and he barely managed to get over the shock of hearing them and the casual mention of Jack’s name
and the fact that by then he still was not over his low self-esteem and mixed-up feelings, made him all the more human, including the fact that he was feeling like a "fraud" for not coming clean to Howie and the sense of guilt for abandoning Justin.
Meli is a wonderful friend, the best possible ally for the boys.
And their sweet "reunion" was written and paced so well, it really feels like a dream come true.
I loved how you parallel both boys' sense of re-descovery of their mutual affection, with Jack saying:
Ain’t no one ever done nothing like this for me, never
and shortly after Ennis saying:
Didn’t know I could be something like that to someone else. Never imagined anyone would feel that way. Not about me.
