The Hulu app for VR has some short VR movies which are not CG (they've been filmed). I imagine they are conventional 3D filming post-processed to work in VR and rely on the viewer not trying to move around too much in the scene. There's a nice clip where you get to hang out in a bit of forest and watch a jaguar.

Oo! I'll have to sniff around for that. Certainly, having used the Rift for a little bit, I'm sold on the concept. The tech we have right now is horribly clunky, and the displays are quite low resolution, but the sensation of really being there, in Senza Peso, or Google's "Welcome to Light Fields", is genuinely impressive. The coming few years promise to be quite interesting, with standalone kit like Oculus GO debuting, not to mention Apple's rumored foray into the field, though the recent scuttlebutt had that not occurring until 2020.

Maybe I should try hacking up something simple by way of a VR app myself - maybe a lush meadow with bunnies who don't mind you stroking them gently. ^_^

BTW, have you used drones for photography at all? I'm pondering maybe getting something capable of hoisting the DSLR kit, but I'm not sure how noisy such things can be - obviously, with the likes of buns, I wouldn't want it to be disruptively loud, although they're as much perturbed by simple visual presence and movement too. =:/
