The Great Post DH Transformation!

Well, we are now in the 3rd month since DH and beginning to see fics where Snape did not die - as we knew we would. Don't get me wrong - I'm all for it, but I have only read one WIP so far that has kept to canon Snape. Too many others have him "reborn" as a kind of "Mr Universe", "Cat-walk King" and "Supercook" rolled into one. The greasy hair and ( Read more... )

Have you seen the recent George/Snape fic? Where Snape has been wandering the Forbidden Forest after the battle oozing from snakebite wounds that won't heal and searching for herbs.

Not sure if that counts as close to canon, but he was certainly unpleasant in that one...

I think it's reasonable to guess that potions skill translates into cooking skill.

I agree. He may not bother to cook anything more complicated than beans on toast, but the ability is almost certainly there.

Thirded. As someone who can cook, and quite well, I must say that the shrivelfig notes to me, screamed someone who knows how to properly mince a clove of garlic and properly prepare cooking herbs.

I myself have made quite a good dinner out of a can of tomato paste, some spices, a chicken breast and the dregs of milk in a carton. On the fly. With no preparation other than what exists in my head.

And while I personally prefer my Snape a bit more canon compliant that some I've seen out there (I think part of loving the guy is loving his faults, too), realise that not everyone was satisfied with Jo's unbelievably erratic treatment of him and have rebounded too far in the other direction. It's a pendulum shift. It may come back to center. And it may not.

Further, and this was a real sticking point for me, anyone who's writing SS/HG by necessity was writing non-canon-compliant fic. So yes, some have gone a bit overboard.

Personally, I prefer that. Deathly Hallows devastated and disgusted me.

Three months? Wow, it seems so much longer.

*dies laughing at the imagery of Snape eating beans on toast*
