Might it be fair to say that charismatics are characteristically moved by what we might call the impulse of the gospel (God's powerful saving action on behalf of undeserving sinners) but not by the shape of the gospel (suffering before entering into glory)?

Brilliant

It's been my experience, both with the charismatic churches we've attended and the charismatic friends with which we've spent time conversing, that the focus is on grace (rightly so), but also on experiencing life at its best in the here and now. Sickness, poverty... these aren't things they're prepared to remain in... because, in their words, God has freed them from such things and is wanting them to experience a more abundant life. Some call it the "name it and claim it" or "health and wealth" mentalitly.

It hasn't been MY experience that this thought process is based on Whole-Scriptural principals . I can read the New Testement a hundred times and find circumstances where faithful Believers were lame, sick and poor BECAUSE of God's plan, not because of their sin.

Anyway... :)
