My daughter wrote this last night. I want to make a joke and say "oy the pre-teen emo angst emerging" but knowing her as I do, and being a parent now, these words made gave me pause, and put myself in a child's shoes just for a moment.

I love it. You should ask her whether she saw the parents' perspective. I think she did, hence the "I wonder why..." That's pretty awesome for a kid her age: to recognize that a five-year old may not understand why others are protecting her from "glass" and "trash," much less why she shouldn't have them in the first place. I know a lot of people well above five years old who can only focus on their own feelings of having been denied something they want, never the big picture. And speaking of my opposing counsel (who does, in fact, act like a five-year old...LOL), I'm sure I'll be back in Boston soon. We'll meet up for drinks next time, yes?
