Welcome to the first challenge voting! YAY! I'm so super excited about this round and I surely hope the rest of you are, as well. :)
Read over the drabbles and choose one most favorite and one least favorite drabble. While reading, keep in mind the prompt and word count restrictions. Once you've chosen, put the number of each drabble in the corresponding box at the end of this post. Please remember to put number of the drabble and not the name; it makes it a lot easier for us to keep track. Each most favorite vote will receive +1 point and each least favorite vote will receive -1 point. The drabble with the most points will win the challenge! Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
If, at any point in time, you have a question about the voting procedure, please contact
indaze22 or me ASAP. Thanks.
Enough babble, onto the drabbles!
PROMPT: Optimism vs. Hopelessness
"Whenever you're in conflict with someone, there is one factor that can make the difference between damaging your relationship and deepening it. That factor is attitude." -William James

kandykanemelWORD COUNT: 233

WARNING(S): none
He doesn’t know how it all came to this. The cold glares and sharp insults were agitating him endlessly but now the silent treatment she gives him makes Harry long for the times when she was lashing out at him. Some days Harry thinks he’s going to break soon or that they’re going to completely destruct before he can solve it.
“Merlin! How many more brats is Granger going to pop out?” Pansy obviously is not thrilled with the news that Ron and Hermione are adding another baby to their family.
Harry pretends as if he hadn’t heard a word she said. “It will happen for us eventually.” Harry also attempts to ignore Pansy when she scoffs at what he just said.
“You keep saying that Darling and yet three years of your useless optimism still can’t give me what I want.” Pansy bites out while she shuffles around their bedroom organizing things that are all right where they are.
“Pansy, you aren’t going through this alone. I want us to have a child too.” Harry hates when she acts like he isn’t just as eager as she is to have a baby.
He reaches out, firmly grabbing her arms to still her frantic movements and pulling her down on the bed with him. She leans into Harry when he links their fingers together. “We’ll have everything we want. I just know it.”

TITLE: The Kismet of Optimism
AUTHOR:
laiksmareiWORD COUNT: 250

He was patient with her, with love. While not quite naïve, he was filled with a born again innocence and youth, optimism and dozens of bright crooked smiles that made her breath catch and eyes widen in astonishment. He was different and good, able to understand her in ways that startled her even on her best day.
Everything was so simple to him, the glass of happiness and tranquillity always a minimum of half full. The dark and desperate corners of her heart and mind, the places where hopelessness and longing stretched to strangle the hunger in her soul, were quick to remind him, of course it’s half full, that is until you take a drink.
And he saw her. She liked to think she was all secrets and mystery, never unguarded, covered in masks and layers and lies. But every time he entwined his fingers with hers, he slowly chipped away at the tiny cracks in the wall she’d worked so hard to build.
He confused her. He infuriated her. He adored her.
To Harry, Pansy was unshared dreams and regret, the kind you hide within yourself and lock inside your closet, swallowing the key. She was exploding fireworks on dark velvet nights, orange-red skies that radiated sun. She was tears in the cold and rain, hollow emptiness and unstated reverence. She was that rare, desperate laughter, the unfulfilled daydreams just behind her eyes.
He was her past. She is his present. Together, they are each other's future.

WARNING(S): None.
It had been a week since the first kiss. It had been accidental, unintentional and, yet, neither Harry nor Pansy could deny the electrifying attraction that had settled between them. Perhaps that was why, ever since that day, the two’s rivalry and bickering had worsened.
*****
Draco slammed his hands down on the table where Ginny and Hermione sat, causing the two girls to jump.
"This is getting out-of-bloody hand. All Parkinson talks about is how sodding terrible Potter is. That's my job! She's not allowed to do it better than me!"
Ginny quirked a brow. "And you're telling us this because...?"
"Fix it! I don't care how, just bloody fix it. Harrassing Potter is my thing!" He ran his hand over his slick hair and stalked off, leaving Ginny and Hermione looking amused.
*****
Harry marched angrily into the Gryffindor common room later that night and plopped down into a chair near Ron.
"She's a foul beast. She wears too much perfume and intentionally tipped my cauldron over in potions. She's worse than Malfoy!"
Ron looked bewildered. He never was good at handling situations such as this. "Er, bad lot mate." He quickly went back to his essay that suddenly seemed more fun than talking to this Harry.
*****
Harry had been minding his own business when he'd been shoved suddenly into the darkened broom closet.
"Ow! You're stepping on my toe! I just painted that nail!"
Parkinson, he mentally growled. Why the hell was he in a dark broom closet with her. He loathed her, despised her, thought she was...
And then a familiar voice came through the door. Ginny.
“You two are driving us mad. We think you need a change of attitude. You’re stuck until you either kiss and make up or kill each other. Optimism is key!”

“You do know that you have no chance with her, right? Not that I even understand why you’d want one.” Ron mumbled the last words with his mouth full of crisps.
Harry groaned. Ron had an annoying ability to catch him every time Harry tried to sneak a glance at Pansy Parkinson. After the mistletoe incident at last month’s holiday party, Harry simply couldn’t get Parkinson (and that kiss!) out of his head.
“Even you have to admit she’s attractive. Look at those legs.”
Ron ceased stuffing his face to give her a second glance. “She got those shapely legs from kicking blokes in the bollocks when they come near. Seamus told me she’s a maneater, Harry. I think she literally eats men,” he said in a warning whisper.
Harry rolled his eyes.
“Plus there’s no evidence that she fancies you in any way. You have absolutely no hope of getting a date.”
“She said hello to me on Tuesday,” Harry offered.
Ron chuckled. “I was there. She said ‘Third floor, please.’”
“But she was looking right at me,” Harry insisted. “And it’s the way she said it. She wants me.”
Ron pushed his now empty plate to the side and stretched back in his chair. “Yeah, she wants you all right. Wants you dead.”
Harry dismissed Ron’s concerns, “That was years ago. Things have changed.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure, mate.” Ron gestured to where Pansy was cutting up her lunch with undue force and waiving around her knife, caught up in whatever she was complaining to her co-workers about.
“I’m asking her.” Harry stood up.
“Now?” Ron sputtered but he was too late; Harry was already steps away from where Pansy sat. “Don’t worry,” he called across the crowded commissary, “I won’t let her eat you, Harry!”

“A Slytherin is only as good as her cunning. And as bloody ridiculous as it sounds, I can’t-won’t-lie any further.”
She paused momentarily, listening to the slow, deep breathing coming from the man beside her. Could she continue on? Yes, she could.
“I know we agreed to be discreet about it, but I don’t want that any more. This is a most uncharacteristic of me, but I despise all this secrecy shrouding us. No more hiding, no more sneaking around. It’s trying, and I am exhausted. And I get scared.
“I want-I want to tell people.
“We’ve been together for three years; I won’t deny it, these have been the most wonderful three years of my life, but I’m not getting any younger. I just want more. And if that isn’t possible, I will find it somewhere else…” With someone else. The words hung unspoken in the air.
“So, you better man up, Potter.” A small smile touched her lips. With a shaky hand, she reached out, touching the familiar face of the Boy-Who-Lived. “And I will too,” she whispered, blinking away the slight prickling sensation in her eyes.
She took a heavy breath, preparing to leave. And then, a hand moves to cover hers.

Harry sat on the bed of their hotel room, staring out into the rain and trying to drown out the incessant voice behind him. "No, Pansy," he sighed when he realised she wasn't shutting up. "It just isn't working. It can't work. It's over."
"Harry, no, you don't mean that," Pansy said desperately, sitting next to him on the bed and grabbing his hand.
"I do," he stated sharply, pulling his hand away from hers. "It's too risky. Imagine if someone found out."
Pansy shrugged. "I don't care anymore. I just... I just want to be with you, and you know how hard that was for me to say, so..."
"So what? We just carry on and hope for the best that nobody ever discovers our relationship?" Harry buried his face in his hands. "We can't be together in secret forever, Pansy. It had to end sometime."
"Then let's tell people," she said, smiling weakly at him. "They'll get over it, eventually."
Harry knew he loved Pansy, but was she worth the cost of his friends or his substitute family? "I don't know..."
"Well I do," she said.
"Do you?" Harry said, looking at her and seeing the grin on her face that he loved so much. Seeing that was like a journey back in time itself, and he knew he had to give it a shot, at the very least. If everyone loved him as much as they said they did, they could at least cope with Pansy for him. "We can give it a go," he said at last. "But that doesn't mean we can have tea at Malfoy's house, all right?"
"Not yet, anyway," Pansy giggled. "I'll give you at least a month to warm to the idea!"

TITLE: No Need for Cupid
AUTHOR:
seatbeltdriveinWORD COUNT: 294
RATING: PG13
WARNING(S): mild profanity, alcohol
Cupid had a bizarre sense of humor.
Forget shooting Harry in the heart-Cupid, the cheeky bastard, full out stabbed him in the chest whenever Pansy waltzed by, his viciously pointed arrows melting Harry down until nothing remained save a puddle of primordial love-ooze.
"So I was thinking," Harry said for the third time that day as Pansy elbowed him aside, grabbing a drink, "that maybe-"
"Die in a fire, Potter!" Pansy hissed, crushing his foot with her spiked-heel as she strutted away. Harry grinned, content to watch her hips sway.
"It'll never happen," Ron warned, shaking his head at Harry. "She hates you. I mean, didn't she want to kill you? No set of jubblies is worth death."
"If I crossed off every woman who ever wanted to kill me, there'd be nobody left!" Harry said. "Besides, this goes beyond breasts. This is love!"
Ron frowned at Harry's glass. "How many of those've you had?"
Harry ignored Ron, sipping at his drink. He caught Pansy's eye across the room, and she gave him the stink-eye.
"One date," Harry said. "That's all I need!"
"Not going to happen," Ron said. "Ever."
Ron could say whatever he wanted, but Harry knew he was too close to give up. Sure, Pansy laughed at him, stomped on his feet and intentionally spilled coffee on him as she walked into the office, but that just made her Pansy. Love was an unstoppable force, and eventually she'd have to acknowledge his charm. Harry needed one chance to prove himself. It was simply a matter of wearing her down.
Looking up, he caught Pansy eying him across the room and grinned when she looked away, her sneer undermined by her reddening cheeks.
Who needed Cupid? He was Harry Potter.

WARNING(S): Slight spoiler for DH.
“It’s useless, Harry,” Pansy snapped. “They’re never going to mess me as anyone else than that idiotic, moron of a girl in Hogwarts.”
“It’s not useless, Pansy,” Harry said softly. “I see you as someone else, and if they can’t, it’s their loss.”
“But they’re your best friends! If they can’t accept I’ve changed, what kind of chance do I stand at anyone else accepting that?” Pansy stared at him silently, willing the hot tears in her eyes not to betray her and slip down her cheeks.
Harry chuckled softly. He placed his hands on her hips, drawing her flush against his chest, and let his chin softly drop on top of her head. “It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks,” he said softly. “We’re the only ones it affects, and I love you too much to care about whatever they think.”
Pansy drew back at that. “You’re willing to sacrifice your best friends, because they don’t approve of us?”
Harry nodded, looking slightly angry. “I’m done with trying to make everyone else happy. I gave up my parents, and the first 18 years of my life to fight Voldemort, trying to keep everyone else safe. It’s not fair that I’d have to give up you as well.”
Pansy’s eyes sparkled with tears. “So, how are we going to get through this?” She asked huskily.
Harry grinned and pulled her back in his arms. “Same way we’ve always done it, with a bitchy attitude, and a hell of a lot of optimism.”
