This was a wonderful story, Leah. The characters were alive and very true to form... a great and completely possible AU of pre-series.

Thanks so much for sharing this :)

This was amazing. The AU aspect was intriquing (I love "Rampage". The fanfiction possiblities are endless!) and the details of Charlie's injuries and recovery was the most realistic and heartbreaking I've read in a long time. I know, from experience, that a story this long takes a lot out of you, but you should be proud of this one. It's a keeper.

I'm so glad you liked it! I'm also glad you thought the injuries and recovery was realistic - for me, it was hands down the most difficult sequence of the entire story, and I nearly chewed off my fingers stressing about it. :)

They do take a lot out of you, don't they? I'm still in my 'cooling off' period and I finished this thing in May!

Anyway, again, so glad you enjoyed it, and thank you so much for commenting.

I'm so glad you liked it. It was a trip, for sure, doing a tale solely from Charlie's point of view. We don't get to see in Don's head, so what we get is what Charlie gets. It was fun as hell, putting all those pieces together.

Thank you so much for commenting, it's possibly the best feeling in the world. :)

A wonderful, well-rounded story, full of emotion without going OTT. I love the early geekier Charlie and especially enjoyed the way you led us in from the pre-series period. Charlie's POV was brilliantly done; the descriptions of him "lost" in his maths were very insightful. Also the disjointed, confused period in hospital had my stomach churning!
There were a couple of times when I might have been tempted to switch PoV to Don, e.g. the shooting itself and the seizure, but you did an excellent job of conveying Don's reactions through Charlie's eyes, so I think you made the right decision - that's probably why you're a writer and I'm just a reader!

Thank you so much for your efforts. I think I'll go and read it again...

*g* I'm glad you think so. :) I too, loved early-series Charlie, the Charlie we saw in Uncertainty Principle. And I'm SO glad you liked the hospital scenes - that sequence was a doozy.

Regarding POV switching - you have no idea how badly I wanted to include those scenes from Don's point of view, and let the reader in on his thoughts and fears and the excruciating horror - but I decided early on that this was going to be Charlie's story, and Charlie's telling. It was hard, though! There were so many places where it would have been so much easier to simply stuff in a page-break and explain everything from Don's brain - but it wouldn't have been as good, I don't think.

Who knows, though. I might one day write a side-story.

Thank you for reading, and thank you so much for commenting with such a wonderful review. Made my day, for sure!

I completely loved this story! brava, doll! well done! it hit so many of my favorite eppes brothers buttons, it couldn't stop reading. and charlie's pov was particularly inspired- from the bewilderment he experienced initially not understanding his father or brother's perspective (always being in a math bubble with do that to you) to the confusion of being head injured or experiencing seizures. It was all just brilliantly done. I can tell you were very through on your research.

This story is definitely going in my mems! I can already tell I will want to reread it again someday soon.

/applauds loudly/ well done! i hope one day you give some thought to a follow up companion story from don's pov. That would just be completely awesome! thank you for sharing your story. :D

Thank you for reading and commenting, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I just spent ten minutes jumping around the kitchen squeeing and getting some very alarmed looks from my cat. :)

I would definitely like to do a companion story from Don's point of view, although I haven't decided yet if I'm actually going to do it. Thinking about it, though!

Again, I'm so glad you liked it. I could die a happy person right now. :)

Yep, two more N3 fics in the works, although it'll probably be a while before I post either one of them. TB is coming along faster but turning out longer than the other one, and I'm still going kind of slow with both of them.

And Charlie on his knees!!!! Gimme gimme gimme! *makes grabby hands*

I'm definitely coming to check out that comm. Thanks for the invite!
