We saw a free IMAX screening of the new Star Trek movie last night. It was not at all terrible, which was a nice feeling, given that I went in prepared to wince and watch the whole thing between my fingers while weeping. I agree with you about Star Trek. I don't think it was the IMAX experience (I saw it in a regular theatre) I just think it was a pretty good movie (although I'm not really a Star Trek fan.) I was actually surprised because the trailer made it look as if the cast members couldn't act at all, and most of them weren't bad, really.

Yeah, so much of my wincing was to protect my inner 11 year old who still thought there was no better form of entertainment anywhere than Star Trek (he's adorable), but I think my 11 year old self and I were both pretty happy.

That trailer, though, ugh.

I'm good, I just started working on the coolest commission of my adult life, involving generative audio... It's a rush job too, so I HAVE ALREADY SPENT TOO MUCH TIME ON THIS COMMENT. Return to work immediately

Generative audio? Like the old eigenradio? It would be wonderful if you were building eigenradio but better.

I don't know why you're reading my response -- YOU ARE WASTING TIME.

i don't think imax shows charm where there isn't any, it just shows a small amount of charm a lot bigger.

Sometimes for me it can also squelch a small amount of charm (Beowulf). I was willing to believe I was screen/sound drunk without additional verification of my feelings.

I'd have a dozen Chekovs for no Baby Kirk Sabotage Cliff Driver and some assurance that Scotty's pet Muppet would return for zero sequels.

But still, a movie I'd happily show people alongside your various Khan Wraths.
