Unless you're a teacher you'll never have known and will never know this other-world phenomenon that they call exam week. You think you know all about exams - you were a student ... but oh no, you think students hate exams?... ask a teacher...students just have to scribble for an hour or two then go home. I did teach ESOL for about an hour once, but then I got caught (technically it was my wife's job, but she was ill and I thought, well, how hard can it be?)
This was back when exams were real exams, before the students had internet access and "'Phone a friend" lifelines, but as they were learning English in South Wales they were slightly doomed anyway.
These days my torment cycle is based around doing appraisals, the quarterly quest to find new ways of telling people about their deep personality flaws in an upbeat motivating way. Maybe I could retire soon.
