In my opinion, I'd say it's true. Not all of the time, but some pictures just turn out unflattering in that way. I know I've been in a few photos like that.
Hmmm thanks guys. From what I've read about 65% of photographers seem to feel its true (that's my estimation from what I've read). It seems to depend on the lens used. Wide angle lenses = more flattering. Also, the transfering of an image from 3D to 2D creates the illusion of objects appearing larger...also the angle, lighting etc. Apparently HP is coming out with a camera that is supposed to make people look 10-20lbs lighter! Hah.
