Thinking positive thoughts for you, and I also agree--a second opinion may be a good idea, with regard to a double masectomy. It could be that the second doctor also thinks it is warranted, but either way, you either get another plan of action, or more confirmation that yes, this is a good idea.
For what it's worth, I have a very good friend who was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer six months ago. She has a wealth of information and connections to support groups, if you are interested, and has already said she would be glad to pass them along to you, if you're interested.
Whatever ends up happening, you have my support. :)
I am sorry for my delayed response. I have had a lot of last minute doctor appointments. And then I did a bit of avoidance for information absorption.
I would like to speak (/write) to your friend. This week I am going to speak with all the people I've been connected with who have battled this as well just to add less medical facts but personal experiences to my info bucket.
Quite all right; I do the Delayed Reaction response all the time. :)
I've told my friend you'd like to chat with her; Zanne is a dear friend of mine whom I've known for years, and she's taken a very positive approach to her diagnosis, in that she's not going down without a fight. Her course of treatment has gone very well, so she can speak positively of that aspect, but she also won't sugarcoat anything for you. She's also gathered a wealth of information and support resources.
I think she'll be sending you a message via LJ, so if you get a private message from kuchenhexe, that's her. :)
