Massive Post O'Buffy

You all know I can go on and on about a TV show. It's a little different here, having mainlined the whole thing. But if you were/are into Buffy, I'd love to hear your thoughts, since I'm about ten years late on all this. Apologies for any missing 'c's - for whatever reason, the key is barely working.

Ha, I'm amused because you're doing what my life was last year. I started by watching Buffy on hulu and the first few eps really made me wonder why it was such a cult show, but I plodded on and somewhere along the line it started to own me. My fave characters were/are Giles and Willow and Oz! and later on Spike. IMO 4th and 5th seasons were kinda weak but I enjoyed S6 (not a popular opinion, I know). S7 wasn't all that great either despite the return of Faith and arrival of Nathan Fillion.

But my viewing differs from you in that I started simul-watching Buffy and Angel as they would've aired and here again I'm probably among the minority of Buffy!verse fans in that I love Angel far more than Buffy. I really fell in love with almost all of the main characters but chiefly Cordelia, Wesley and Fred and Angel of course! Ooh forgot Lorne and Gunn ( ... )

S1 - I kind of like the first season, especially the standalone episodes. The Master was indeed lame, but the first season for me was about getting to know these characters ( ... )

Yes, this. Um... pretty much all of it.

Xander is my favourite character. Andrew is next in line. So while s6 is generally hated, I liked it for their specific character development. While I loathed s7, I can't outright NOT watch it, because it gave me the Andrew I know and LOVE. And Xander. Being... well... awesomely Xander.

Season 3 is my favourite though, with 2 a very very close second.

Basically, yeah, just know that I agree with just about everything connielane said.

I have a soft spot for season 1 since I saw it when it was still being originally aired. But in retrospect, definitely, BtVS was still establishing itself and finding its entertainment legs at this point ( ... )

Wow, I love that artwork. I always had a soft spot for Spuffy, too.

Fun to read your comments about the show - if I wasn't so tired I'd respond in more detail.

Be curious to know what you think about Angel too when you watch. I liked Buffy better (was never a huge fan of the character Angel) but it is good too.

Not being in high school definitely sucked some energy from the show,

IMHO, the problem with taking high school characters and making them college kids is that in any group, fiction or real, college can and often does change things. So while on one hand, it was refreshing to see a realistic depiction of what happens when you go to college and start trying to grow past the person you were for four years of your life, I missed the Scoobies. Luckily I don't think they stayed apart - I know the popular fandom consensus is that there was a huge rift, but I don't see it. To me, they just became more adult in approaching their friendship. Still, they definitely were awkward in season four, and it did suck some fun out of things.

(And this is why I'm glad there's no 8th Harry Potter book. "Harry Potter and the Finding of Self." Hm... no thanks. :)

So now I've added 'Angel' to my Neflix queue. I liked Angel, although I didn't like seasons three and four that much. The only thing is that before I watched Angel, I really liked the character ( ... )
