Well, you're OK. Happy's going to be none the worse for wear. Your jobs are to mend as quickly as possible, and then go have a beer and laugh about it.
You did exactly the right thing-- kept a cool head, called 911, and ensured scene safety. Everything prior to that was good judgment that just happened to go south, which happens to everyone. Happy reacted the way a normal person would, by hanging on as best he could. It's something that could have happened to anyone.
My blasted call to 911 was dropped at least 3 times. I was really irritated with dispatch, who wanted me to slow down and answer their questions. I wanted to get the info out as fast as possible bc I knew I was going to lose my signal. Scene safety, yep I thought about that and it was pretty funny. I stood over Pete and braced against the gate to stop the other young horse who kept nudging it. Then he started nudging and nibbling at me which made the gate jiggle against Pete's head which made him complain. Meanwhile the other horse wandered around and stepped on his reins. As soon as there were several people holding on to Pete I went and started securing horses and making sure they had water, since I figured at that point I was going to be away for a while. I ordered the EMT girl who came to ask me questions about the fall to lift up a bucket. I think she was taken aback.

I wish I knew what to say except I'm glad he will be okay.
