We saw a horse break it's leg and have to be euthanized. It happened literally right in front of us.

This is EXACTLY why they should not race horses before they are fully grown and their bones have had time to strengthen.

I'm not a gambler, I always just went to the track because I liked to watch the horses. We were even thinking about getting a share of a horse, with which we would have had access to the whole farm where she was kept. They had retired thoroughbreds you could ride and babies you could feed carrots to, it was going to be so much fun.

I'm so soured to the whole "sport" now that we're definitely not buying into that syndicate- I don't think I could handle it at all if it happened to my horse- and I don't even know if I'll be able to watch the Derby this year. Which sucks, because it's such a huge deal here...

I'd heard about that stuff happening but it took seeing it to make it real, and I think it was the most upsetting thing I've ever personally witnessed.
