so this is a video for one of my favourite bands, the mountain goats. the song is called 'woke up new.' i don't think it's their best song, or that the video is anything particularly amazing (although i do like that little zebra). in fact, the video is kind of weird. anyway, just watch it first and think about what it's about, before you read on

john darnielle is a crazy genius. he actually looks...I don't know. oddly comforting in this video. oddly alluring. must be the glasses.

it's true, they have changed hugely, but i still love parts from all different "eras" of their music.

john darnielle seems super smart. there's a cute video on youtube in which he talks about his favourite albums, and he is so smart and yet dorky that it's great. also, the glasses in this video make him look like stephen colbert to me. otherwise, he looks different every time i see a picture or watch a video of him.

That's a nice yet sad song. I thought it was about someone dying though and that although they wouldn't be there physically, a part of them would always be there?

oh! i never even thought about it that way, but that could be it too... like an old husband who lost his wife. AHH! now i'm really sad.
