Death by Textbook

I'm seriously buried under a mountain of work, but that's alright I suppose. I had to drop my Arabic class which makes me pretty upset, but I realized I would have to go two extra semesters instead of one if I kept it... so...yeah. I have ten more slots before graduation and 12 credits to do, so by droping the two Arabic classes I'm able to eek ( Read more... )

I had Cultural Anth. last semester but it wasn't the Intro Course. I really enjoyed it but the Ethnography tried to wrap its slimy claws around my neck toward the end of the semester. Knowing me I pick an obscure sub culture that requires extra amounts of field work with no outside resources save one website -_-;;.

I enjoyed the dead people part. If Archaeology was given here as a serious course then I would take it too. I love history, anthropology, and writing. I guess thats why I tend to be eccentric >.> and poke at dead things.

I really can't get that interested in Cultural Anth just because the field methods differ so much from how you do them as an archaeologist, it almost seems like a waste of a class for me. Most of it is focusing on how to put things in cultural context, which I learned after three semesters of reading religious scripture anyhow... So I'm a bit bored.

Haha, yeah that's very true. I guess I had alot more fun with mine because I actually did fieldwork. The teacher I had was awesome. She went backpacking across the US studying the sexual patterns of truckers to see if they spread HIV. Her stories were hilarious and I had her for Intro to Anth a year previous.

We spent time on cultural context but we took alot more time studying the nitty gritty about different cultures. Granted in the end we put everything in context but we spent alot of time comparing and contrasting simular African cultures and what not. I wouldnt have traded that experience for the world ^_^.
