Madison was pulled from her thoughts about this room and that night when she felt the couch sink a little, due to Roland's weight being dropped upon it rather unceremoniously. She was still stunned by everything that had happened, and so her expression didn't darken considerably - it simply turned into a slight frown at the realization of who was beside her. "Wh-" Madison stopped, not bothering to finish her question, and looked ahead of her once more. Roland was fairly unpredictable, but she guessed that he'd come to bother her. Despite his being a Slytherin, Madison had learned that he didn't take much pleasure in actually hurting people's feelings. However, he did enjoy getting a reaction out of people. She wasn't quite in the mood to give him one. Chin on her hands, Madison stared at the abstract painting on the wall before her, pretending to be interested in figuring out its meaning.

"Huh," Roland said again. He frowned at her. Usually Madison showed some sort of reaction. Annoyance, at least. Or eyebrows raised as if he was insane. But she was just ignoring him. And even stranger, Michael wasn't draped all over her like he normally was. Mayzie wasn't even there, though Roland could have sworn that he'd seen her talking to someone near the door. "Why are you sitting alone?"

Madison shrugged. It was stupid and humiliating; she wouldn't tell him. She knew that Roland wouldn't tell anyone else, but he would - she wasn't quite sure what he would do. He still seemed to like her, and so he might hit Michael, or at least shout at him. Maybe he wouldn't. She sometimes missed his antics, and his conversation - Roland had never been as difficult for her to figure out as Michael was, because he told her exactly what he was thinking, but Madison still didn't want to deal with it right then. It had been hard enough telling Mayzie without crying.

Roland's frown deepened. Madison wasn't acting like herself. After what had happened between them, he didn't expect her to want to talk to him, or anything, but usually she did the first part. Talked. A lot, actually. And she tended to say what was bothering her. At least, she did the majority of the time, if she wasn't too busy worrying about something or someone else. Now Madison was just staring at that stupid painting as if it held all of the secrets to the universe. He poked leg gently before resting his hands on his lap again, but didn't say anything.
