Two things:
Pay attention to file size. Even if it was legit, you should have been doing this (maybe you were, I don't know...) to make sure the end file would have been decent quality. If the file is too small or too big, you might be getting something you aren't looking for.

Use a community with protection against such things. There's probably not a bittorrent tracker that wouldn't ban the offender for life, not to mention pulling the file from the listing before you even got there. There are actually a lot of ways to get what you want and to be sure of it...
