For one thing, it required providing food. Okay, maybe that was the smallest of the problems (er... minus cooking, thank you, that wouldn't be a good idea if there was to be a cottage for him to come into!). She could order good stuff, and well, setting the table shouldn't be that difficult. Usually. For most people.
For another, it involved cleaning, or at least tidying up the cottage. Erm. Household spells. Tonks. They just didn't mix well together. But for this once, she wanted to do it. Not because she was told, not because she thought mum somebody would judge her, one way or another. She just wanted this to be a pleasant evening. Trying to eat through papers, globs of goo and other potion ingredients, random spell experiment reminders, and occasionally a clean sock she'd dropped when finishing her laundry and then picked up absent-mindedly and deposited on the table ( ... )

"It's good that we got time off together at the same time. And that Sirius decided to release you for an evening. Both of us, that is."
She grinned up at him. Drab old man? That was definitely not what she was seeing. Instead, he was somebody she was starting to find difficult imagining her life without... and the last thing she wanted would be to say or do something that'd make him retreat, close into himself. Feel uncomfortable around her. Want to stay away...
"Well, you brought yourself!" The grin turned impish, then flickered for a moment as her toe caught on the carpet, and she added. "Besides, I thought you'd feel uncomfortable filching wine from Sirius's cellar - you'll end up spending more time with both him and Kreacher, which would be bad if you got caught" underestimating a Marauder? Oh never mind... "so I kind of did it for you."

He was relaxing, trusting himself to come outside of himself a bit more rather than closing up. Relaxing around a ball of energy that glowed more than anything he had seen before or would probably see again. He could get used to this, a different sort of everything that seemed to fit seamlessly. She always brought a smile to his lips, and she didn't even have to speak. It only got better when she did.
"This is true, I did," he says and caught her so she didn't completely fall. "Probably would have just asked Sirius so he could tease even more. Either that or I just wouldn't get caught."
