“I will adjust his seat once he earns it” ?? This is illegal! you don't "earn" equal access! This teacher ought to be SEVERELY reprimanded if not fired. I am so disgusted.
I came to comment the same thing. This kind of shit is really common - I went toe-to-toe so many times with gen ed teachers who thought like this. It's the fucking LAW.
Yep that part annoyed me too and made me glad my autistic kid is in the school he is and they respect the accommodations he gets. I'm scared of the possibility of having to lose that.
That teacher should have been reported. Any student who needs to sit closer to the front, for whatever reason, SHOULD sit closer to the front. But especially if it's in his lesson plan.
That's someone who shouldn't even be a teacher. :(
“I will adjust his seat once he earns it,” said the response the following day.
UGHHHHHH I hate Gen Ed teachers like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a teacher tell me it's my responsibility and not hers to implement supplementary aids because she doesn't have time for that. I had another teacher tell me I was out to get her because I put home-school communication as a supplementary aid for an ED student.
I hope Juan appreciates everything you do for him and that he does well in high school!
You did a fantastic job with the dialog. My mother was a special education teacher at the dawn of time. I love the way you worked with Juan -- the other teachers, not so much. I hope we learn how he's doing in high school.
