Stories like this... I can understand Sam's point of view - I really can. and I can see Dean's love. And then I get so freaking angry at Sam for ignoring him once he got to Stanford! Dean did everything and - gah!
the point is this is wonderful. I think you have their characters down, and I am just going to collect my little pieces of broken heart.

I agree. My gut instinct is always to write off Sam's rebellion as just teen angst, but when you look at it, he really does have reason to be frustrated with the way they live. But I get angry at him too for ignoring Dean :(
Glad it worked for you!

Watching Dean fix what he can because he can't do anything to fix John and Sam...If Sam would just tell him he was going to college, Dean would tell Sam he was proud...Having Dean wish Sam would just tell him was especially sad...
He wished he had known at the time, the last morning of feeling good, being healthy, having his whole family. He’d known it was one of the last, but he thought if he had known it was the very last, he might at least have made pancakes--I know this feeling, and it tore my heart out...
*But the end actually did hurt worse...

I think it was selfish in the sense that he knew how much it would hurt Dean and John for him to leave, but you're right, it's what people his age typically do, and in most cases, should do. It's never so black and white, I think.
I'm really glad it worked for you!
