Two new sub-weapons! Patchouli and Alice.
I'll bring both of them along for...
STAGE 5: Scarlet Devil Castle - Coliseum
The enemy is getting organized!
These knight skeletons take three hits to kill, are more agressive than their green counterparts, and are backed up by those damn archers.
Alice's attack hurls four dolls into the air, which then land and rush forward to self-destruct at people!
It's pretty strong, but I don't tend to use it because it only really attacks forward.
Pesky glaive skeletons! They're pretty sturdy, fast, and violent.
Fortunately, they're also quite predictable.
This is another situation where Alice is handy - when an enemy is down a cliff from you. Dolls are affected by gravity.
These assholes again!
Battling!
More obnoxious archers!
If only I had some way to make them be a complete non-issue.
PATCHOULI, HELP A BRO OUT
Patchouli's attack surrounds me with spinning runes that block weaker projectiles AND damage anything they touch. One of my favorite subweapon powers!
Yet another hidden 1UP!
HOLY COW it's a monster dog skeleton.
They take a bit of discretion, but their charge falters when they're hit, so overall not that hard.
Skeleton snake things!
Pretty harmless if you can get ready for them, but once they slip past you, dealing with them quickly becomes a nightmare.
As if these guys weren't enough of a pain, now I'm fighting them on floating platforms suspended over a terrible void!
The more I play, the more I find that Alice is way more useful than I thought!
And yes, I did get shot taking this screenshot.
Oh god, elevator sequence.
While fire-breathing demons descend from above, fairies shoot bullets in from both sides!
This is where Patchouli's power is essential.
Nearly done...!
And steak in the walls puts me back at full!
These minotaurs are sturdy and powerful, but they're also predictable, and can't fit through these gaps. Easy enough to cheese.
Werewolves are extremely dangerous! I'll deal with this thing from a distance if at all possible.
Which leads to it hiding behind this thing, which spends most of its short life lumbering forwards through heavy knife barrage.
Two werewolves destroyed!
And end of stage!
You have done well to come this far, Sakuya.
You are...
Heh heh heh...
The Hakurei shrine's...
Reimu Hakurei
Voice:
Rina Satou
I was expecting the great Sakuya to be able to get here a little faster.
Don't tell me... the master of this castle is you?
Are you surprised?
Why you? Weren't you the one who destroyed my mistress's ambitions last time?
I don't have anything I want to discuss with you, so I'll just say one thing: Leave this castle and don't look back.
What?!
Didn't you hear me? I said, get out of this castle. Now.
...!
Looks like you have no intention of leaving. Figures.
Tresspassers get exterminated. Prepare yourself!
BOSS BATTLESakuya VS Reimu
Reimu was the hero of the previous game, so this is that one battle that always happens in Castlevania games! Richter in SotN. Julius in Aria of Sorrow. Belmont versus Belmont!
Accordingly, Reimu here can do everything she could do in Touhouvania I. That includes throwing talismans, a slide kick...
...and a Belmont-style whip attack!
All of these get chained together rapidly, forcing you to keep your wits about you.
And then, her spell card!
Fantasy seal!
Three pairs of slightly homing orbs. Survival is a matter of distance control - not so far that they can home properly, but not so close that you can't dodge in time.
I'm already taking heavy damage! Reimu is demonstrating the power of a true youkai exterminator. Even though I'm human.
While she's charging Fantasy Seal is a great time to get some hits in...
Almost got her!
And defeated.
No... impossible!
It's over, Reimu. Tell me everything.
I guess this is as far as I can go, huh?
This is as far as you can go.
I give up!
...What?
I give up being the master of the castle. I guess a shrine's more than enough for me.
You give up?
I was just trying out owning a castle. It was Ran's suggestion.
Ran Yakumo?
Yeah, that's the one. Oh, well, it was fun while it lasted.
That's all you were doing here?
Pretty much. I get the impression you're upset about it, so, sorry?
......
Anyway, Ran seems pretty suspicious, so why don't we turn the tables on her a bit?
What can I say to this?
Hey, I'll go with you. I could use a little fun.
Very well.
Spring has yet to return to Gensokyo....
This is an incident!
Reimu has joined your team.
