>> Chapter 3: Pilgrim's Rest
Part 4: Out of the Dark
Time to head to Wier 21!
But first, a quick drop by the main canalway to get some skill points.
Okay, here we go.
More new enemies!
The Thunderhulk (left) is large, undead, and sturdy - this makes my attack plans pretty straightforward against it.
The Gaegleesh (right) has generally poor defenses, but it also has some Chi, so it may be worth using magic against it.
With the entire party doing bonus damage against either large or undead enemies, the Thunderhulk goes down almost instantly!
The Gaegleesh can put a curse on a party member to constantly drain their health, but the effect is minor enough for us to conveniently tear shit up.
The other fact of the matter is that Chi isn't affected by armor - 300-ish Chi will get blown away in seconds.
A couple treasure chests leave me in possession of some *very* nice new equipment for PyanPau.
Monsters from the last area are hanging out here, too!
Gaegleeshes have the obnoxious ability to heal allies, AND to hang out at the back of the enemy party. What losers!
That health-draining curse is normally just annoying, but in extended battles, even Denever can get pretty seriously injured by it.
Fuck yeah!
Let's get the hell out of here...
You again?! The last time we saw you, you were falling down the side of a mountain. Aren't you supposed to be dead?
It is my business to deceive by appearance, my friends. As you can see, I am no worse the wear for the manner of my departure from your delightful company.
Your deceptions won't serve you any further, Yaegaran agent. We've read the message inside the briefcase and we know why you want to stop us.
You know nothing! The message is a fraud. There is no imminent attack. If you deliver it, you'll play right into the shadowy hands of those who truly orchestrated this deception.
Humor us. Just who would that be?
I don't know. But I'm working hard to find out, and I can assure you, my friends, the delivery of that message serves none of us. Please, listen to me.
I think we'd rather leave judgement on the veracity of this document to the relevant authorities instead of a murderous foreign spy.
Regrettable, but I suspected as much. I did at least try. I hope that you've been enjoying your time in Crone's Craw, my friends. You will be staying here for quite a while.
There is no need to fall so easily into despair. We need only wait for a minute. Grandfather says that he feels help coming.
Oh, great! Do you hear that, Denever? The voice in PyanPau's head is talking to him again. There's the solution to all of our problems! Let's just wait and see what happens, shall we?
...
Well that's just... That doesn't make any sense. How did he know that was going to happen?
I'm more interested in the identity of our assistant. Who the devil was that, and why were they following us?
Our mysterious benefactor has vanished as readily as they appeared!
And we can vacate the premises!
Surely nothing bad will happen to us on the way out.
You made it! It's good to see you all alive and well. Now that we've drained the North Lock and secured Templeson Bridge, we were about to send men out to look for you.
We were beginning to fear that you'd slain the source of our woe only to perish trying to escape from the lower caverns. I see that we've underestimated you again!
Thank you all dearly. You're heroes, and we owe you our lives. Underport will forever remember the day that three strangers wandered in from the snow to deliver us from our darkest hour.
We're deeply honored, Watch-Chief, but I wouldn't start the celebrations just yet. We drove the source of the plague from the unearthed cathedral, but the creature is still at large and might return at...
Good lord! What is this monstrosity?!
The source of your troubles, Watch-Chief. Please, everybody, stay back. We'll deal with this again.
What's wrong, my pretties, so eager to run?
I'm not through with you yet, let's have some more fun.
Good grief, you're even uglier in the cold light of day. You've made a mistake coming back here, witch, unless you're looking for someone to put you out of your misery.
Your witless posturing will be your undoing, arrogant creature! Your new clothes misfit you, but I know your stench well enough.
Your masters are not here to send me back. I'll hang your three gangly bodies from this bridge's black girders with your entrails and let the crows take your eyes.
An unpleasant image and a gross overestimation of the tensile strength of gut fibre. Fortunately for us, we know just how hopeless you are at making good on your foul-mouthed threats. This time, we'll finish you for good!
Thanks, Info!
LET'S RUMBLE
BOSS BATTLE
The Crone
Several things are different here!
While she's Large, my usual anti-large strategy isn't much good here. Single big hits are easily absorbed by her shield spheres.
Denever is my best source for getting rid of shield spheres with Hack, which hits twice.
Also note: Taylor's at the back of my party, providing rifle support!
THIS is insanely dangerous.
It can hit PyanPau at any distance, and ignores Chi. PyanPau can't heal himself.
It's time to use a new skill!
PyanPau's Aurora gives everyone in the party a small barrier that blocks the next certain amount of Magic damage. The barrier it grants to PyanPau is twice as strong!
From there, it's a matter of beating her shields out of the way, then hitting her hard with anti-large attacks.
That barely even hurt, you pansy!
In addition to giant lasers, the Crone can drop shield spheres on people's heads in rapid fire.
PyanPau's starting to wear down, but we've basically already won!
Anyway,
We're done with this loser.
Aye. We'll send some men down to check what's left of the body nevertheless. We owe you three so much, yet we have so little to offer in return, save for our undying gratitude and the unending hospitality of Underport.
Our profit margins are slim, and with this season's shipments missed, we'll be deep in debt for years to come.
Your offer of hospitality is most kind, Foreman. But I think we've seen enough of your fair town at its worst for now. We have to be moving on.
Ah yes, of course, your special package. The Northern Canalway is open again, and we've already sent a boat out to Glyn Sale, the next port and county barracks down-river.
If they make good time and the response is swift, they can have a regiment here within a week. The good men and women of the great Lereftese army will be able to hunt down what remains of this other-worldly mob.
Is no one else leaving with us, Foreman? The caverns are still far from safe, and there's no telling how many other ancient prisons may be buried beneath the mountain, waiting for the strike of an unwitting pickaxe.
We have little choice, sir. Our livelihoods are tied to these stones, and defend them we must. If we can't keep Underport safe together, we'll lose everything we've worked our lives to build. We must dig in.
Then we wish you all the best, Foreman. Be careful down there.
Don't worry, we shall. Farewell, heroes, and don't forget to tell all you meet that Underport is open for business again!
Good luck on your journey, friends! God speed!
End of Chapter 3!
