Recap
Millions of years in the past...
A portal from another dimension brings a meteor to strike the Earth.
It brings with it:
A temple.
Becquerel, a dog-like being with omnipotent powers.
A time capsule that won't open for millions of years.
In the present...
John Egbert, Rose Lalonde, Dave Strider, and Jade Harley.
Four friends have been invited to play a very special game. But not all will begin at the same time.
John's journey
After much strife with his clown-crazy father, John acquires his copy of the Beta.
Rose is his server player.
Together they learn the very basics of Sburb.
Rose interacts with John's environment, and John is the one who has to do the work.
Little do they initially realize, they are up against a strict time limit. There are only minutes until a meteor will destroy John's neighborhood.
The goal is to acquire and then somehow use a special item, provided to the server player via a pre-punched card.
John's item is an apple. He accomplishes his goal seconds before the meteor strikes.
John's hosue is transported to the Medium.
It will be a while yet, but he will eventually learn that this is high above the clouds of John's planet in the Medium, the Land of Wind and Shade.
Now in the Medium, John must contend with a variety of monsters.
His goal is to ascend to the First Gate. There are seven in total.
Each gate will take him to another of the four planets.
The journey won't be easy, though.
Rose builds his house upwards towards the Gate, and John fights the monsters infesting the house in order to provide Grist for her to build with.
Together with Rose, he explores the magical world of punch card alchemy.
After much toil, John enters the First Gate.
This takes him to the surface of the LOWAS, where he begins to explore.
He is also harassed by a number of Trolls.
One of these trolls will convince John to take a shortcut directly to the Seventh Gate.
Fortunately, an appeal from Dave stops him from going through with it.
Instead, he takes the second gate, moving on to Rose's world.
They don't meet up, as she is asleep when he arrives.
Some exploration takes him to a laboratory in a distant asteroid belt, beyond the edge of time.
Experimenting here, he begins the process that creates the paradox clones that are himself, his friends, and their guardians.
Seconds later, the Reckoning begins, sending the paradox clones through portals to Earth, where they grow up to become the people they were cloned from.
And Dream John awakens on Skaia.
Rose's journey
Rose's journey into Sburb isn't so simple.
While helping John complete his own quest, her internet connection suffers from repeated outages.
After much strife with her alcohol-loving mom, Rose retreats to the mauloseum of her pet cat to continue acting as the server player for John.
And when even that respite fails her, she retreats to the laboratory beneath her home.
In the lab, she finds the Skaianet Terminal, warning of impending meteor impacts.
The four biggest meteors yet to come, in ascending order:
-One hitting this very lab.
-One hitting her house.
-One hitting Dave's apartment.
-One hitting Jade's island.
By the time Dave connects as Rose's Server player, time is already running short.
Jaspers is thrown into the Kernelsprite, Rose acquires her pre-punched item.
Rose enters the Medium.
In the Land of Light and Rain, Rose immediately begins destroying imps for grist.
She also spends time talking to trolls. Mostly one who's much more eloquent than the one John met.
Jade cautions her that she wrote something on the walls of her room in her sleep.
Rose dreams. Her dream self sees what she wrote. It's a code.
Later, the code will be stolen by an agent of Derse, who will use it to create Becquerel.
Back in the land of the waking, Rose procures some awesome new equipment.
It works.
Eventually, Rose gets fed up with playing by the game's rules, and destroys her First Gate rather than passing through it.
Dave's journey
While John and Rose play Sburb, Dave deals with a house filled with uncomfortably sexualized naked puppets.
He loses his copy of the Beta in an accident.
The only route available to him is to steal his Bro's copy.
A badass katana duel is fought on the rooftop.
Dave loses.
Bro gives him the beta anyway.
Dave becomes Rose's server player.
He solves the puzzles preceding her entry to the Medium with ease.
While he's playing server for Rose, Jade plays server for him.
She's not very good at it.
The pre-punched item is created, but his birdsprite steals it and builds a nest atop a tower.
While Dave's working on entering the Medium, John enters the Seventh Gate.
He is never seen again.
Months later, Dave and Rose are stuck in a doomed session. Two of the players are dead. The game cannot be won.
So Dave goes back in time, stops John from killing himself, gives his past self some sweet gear, and prototypes himself.
Thusly equipped, Dave alchemizes a bunch of awesome shit.
Dave enters the Medium.
Bypassing most of the first area entirely, Dave flies up to the First Gate...
Jade's journey
Jade's journey is a bit slower to begin. She has places to go before starting the Beta.
After much strife with her deceased grandfather, Jade heads out to find Becquerel.
After playing with her mysteriously omnipotent best friend, Jade is transported back to her room to sleep.
Her dreambot activates.
While she dreams, the clouds of Skaia shine through to her dreamself, giving her glimpses of the future.
That done with, Jade wakes up again, and sneaks into the ancient temple adjacent to her house.
Inside, she finds a Time Capsule - thet same one that appeared on Earth 413 million years ago.
It contains more than one seed, but the one that opens just as she arrives contains Dave's copy of the Beta. She can now connect as a Server Player.
While the others are having their adventures, Jade mostly sleeps.
Her dreamself explores the golden moon of Prospit.
While she dreams on Prospit, Prospit is destroyed by Jack.
Jade's dream self rescues John's dream self, but dies in the process. Jade's robot is destroyed.
The last we saw of Jade was her falling from a great height...
The journey of the Exiles
In the Medium, two kingdoms battle for control of Skaia.
Prospit, which seeks to protect it, and Derse, which endlessly covets its destruction.
Among the inhabitants of this battlefield are...
A Warweary Villein...
A Parcel Mistress...
An Authority Regulator...
And a White Queen.
There is much maneuvering on the battlefield. The White Ring is lost. The Black Ring falls to Jack. The Parcel Mistress makes a deal to trade the White Crowns for the mail she must deliver.
But the forces of darkness are destined to win this battle.
Hundreds of years later, on Earth, wandering the sands we find...
A Wayward Vagabond...
A Peregrine Mendicant...
An Aimless Renegade...
...and a Windswept Questant.
Their true role in this story, however, is not yet clear.
The present
A boy finds a dead friend. Her ring, recovered.
His future is seen in a cloud. His destination, revealed.
A communication device is borrowed. A rendezvous, arranged.
The droll is beckoned. The bargained, honored.
The boy reaches the castle. His courier's path, crossed.
The mail is delivered. An obligation, satisfied.
The package is opened. Letters, read.
John!
From what i heartell youve been through a bit of an adventure by the time youre reading this. Thats so great. I love adventure and i would bet my bottom boonbuck you do too. I think we are birds of a feather john. I am pretty eager to meet you. Oh yeah i should have mentioned we are going to meet some day. I hear you like movies is that right john? I love movies too. Have you ever seen weekend at bernies? So friggin hilarious. Its hard to talk to jade about movies because she doesnt really know about movies but im sure you know that. Boooring. Ha ha just kidding jade you know i love you and i think youre a blast.
Okay speaking of jade we spent quite a long time working on this present for you. It was a big team effort. Okay i had to do quite a lot of arm twisting to get her to go along with helping me make such an oddball present for you and so well in advance. But i had my arm sort of twisted myself to get this going in the first place. But then she came around to the idea because she can see the future! Pretty amazing if you ask me. Itll all be clear later. Gadzooks with all this arm twisting ive been getting a good workout. We should wrestle when we meet john. I love to wrestle but i dont get a chance to wrestle with anyone that much. Do you like to get into fisticuffs john? Scrums and what not? Me too.
Anyway you should listen to jade from here on out john because she sure seems to know whats best for you. Whatever your adventure throws at you im sure shell tell you you can handle it. She believes in you.

even though its super late and you probably went through a lot of trouble to get it, i really hope this present cheers you up! you looked so sad while you were reading my letter. um... which is to say, the one you are reading now. i can explain!!!
you see, when i go to sleep, in my dreams i wake up on the moon of a planet called prospit. by now you must know about this place! i have lived there in my dreams most of my life and i made so many friends there over the years. and you were there too! but you were asleep. the fact that you are awake now i think means all my friends are in trouble. you are awake because it is your job to help them. we will both help them!
but ummm..... i know these things because while i was on the moon, whenever it passed through skaia i could see lots of things in the clouds. the past, the future, stuff about our friends, and stuff about you! now that you are awake, and apparently at the center of skaia (??? WOW!!!) you should be able to see stuff in the clouds too. maybe you already have!
about this present! my penpal helped me work on it. he included a letter too! hes really funny and silly, i like him a lot and i think you would too. it took a long time between the two of us. and sure the present looks like a fun and completely ridiculous thing to get, but it is also really important! you are getting it exactly when you need it most. maybe thats hard to believe but its true! i saw it happen already. i dont see everything john, and i definitely dont know everything thats going to happen. but when i do know something, i always try to do my best to help people in the future! when im supposed to that is. youll get the hang of it.
john i am REALLY looking forward to seeing you when you wake up!!!!! its been nice playing with my prospitian friends and all, but also kind of lonely knowing you were in the other tower sleeping and having lousy dreams. :( im not sure where i am when you are reading this but im sure ill make it down to where you are soon! (jeez how did you get down there??? oh well ill find out) i cant wait to fly around the moon with you and show you all my favorite places. itll be so much fun!!!!!!!!! :D
