I love grad school

I feel bad saying that, and talking about how much fun I'm having here, when I know friends of mine are... not enjoying the grad school thing so much. Nonetheless....
Both my professors this quarter are too busy to assign homework, and I'm too lazy to make work for myself. So last Saturday, having nothing better to do, I went to Natural BridgesRead more... )

yeah...the problem is that sitting in one place-- say, outside...on a beach-- can get a little nippy pretty quickly. But the fact that it is possible makes me very happy.

Oooo! What lovely echinoderms and cnidaria..and the water and clouds are pretty too. It's fun to show off my tidepool vocabulary. What I really want you to find is a sea hare or-- what would be so very, very cool-- a northern clingfish. I LOVE the clingfish-- fiesty little creatures! The chihuahuas of the tidepool; it obviously thinks it is king of the pool and anything (including my finger) is its rightful prey!

Personally, being one of those whose life, at the moment, pales completely by comparison, I would rather hear about you being happy and having a lovely time, than that grad school sucks and you are miserable (your first year in Baltimore springs to mind, not that you ever really complained). I'm not sure if you deserve this, but I think you do. Just send lots of pictures for those of us mole-ing and trolling in less idealic (wow! that's so cool-- the lj spellchecker is clever enough to figure out that I meant "idyllic") situations, and who can't find a way to justify the luxury and expense of higher education (for you it is the obvious choice!). It would be so easy to slip into academia, but I really want to keep knocking my head against other walls for awhile longer. Perhaps I am completely insane (well...I suppose that has already been well established), but it I'm not ready to retreat there yet. So, keep telling us about your adventures.

I totally agree. It's refreshing to hear from someone who actually likes grad school. In fact, it's sort of making me a little jealous that I didn't pursue a higher degree. Mind you, not nearly enough to consider actually going back to school.
