PICARATS 017 [VIDEO/ACTION IN CIANWOOD]

Aug 22, 2011 17:00

[ Lookie here, check out this gorgeous view of the sea. The way the water is so clear and the sun shining brightly down on it. It seems like the perfect day for a swim and the perfect day to be outside, especially on the beach. Those by the Cianwood and Olivine beach should get out right now and sit right there, just like what the good old ( Read more... )

[He's totally prepared for this. Good thing he'd asked the professor about birthdays a while ago.]

So...I'm guessing the other anniversary has something to do with a birthday? [Yours in particular?]

[ Merlin, you are a sneaky guy. You got a suspicious look about you-- shifty, like you got something to hide. ]

Indeed it does. [ C'mon, Merlin, come guess whose birthday. Layton isn't going to say anything unless you do. ]

[I'm an open book!

Actually, the professor should be hearing the flapping of wings getting closer and closer...Surprise! Archimedes the Noctowl comes swooping down next to him.]

I sent him out as soon as I saw the date. Happy Birthday!

[The package Archimedes delivers contains the following: a good-sized box of tea bags and several wooden tokens fashioned after the chocolate hint coins the Professor had been handing out at Christmas. A few spots on the coins are a little burnt, hinting at how the details had been carved in.]

The tea is from me, and the coins are from my team.

[ I don't believe that for a second, however, I do know that without your help, I'll still have a troll for a step-mother-- wait what just happened ]

[ And whoa, what's this Noctowl here? Layton has just sent out his own to deliver a gift-- oh, this isn't Walter and what are these things that it's holding. Wait, they're tea bags and-- oh, oh my goodness. These tags bags are fantastic but these hint coins... Those are just... ]

[ Check out this giant smile upon the Professor's face. Check it out. ] These gifts are wonderful, Merlin, but you really didn't need to send me these.

[ And a very small pause after. ] Thank you.

The dad is 40 and the daughter is 10.

[Man, that puzzle was so easy that even Xanxus could solve it without really thinking about it. But that's probably because he's really good at math.]

[ Xanxus solving a puzzle... hear that sound? That's the sound of Layton's happiness-o-meter hitting the max. Is this real life, or this fantasy? ]

Correct! In twenty years' time, the father will be sixty and the daughter thirty, thus fulfilling the second half of the puzzle. Very well done, Mister Xanxus.

Will you like to solve another or exchange your fifteen picarats? [ solve more, xanxus, and make layton feel like you're being one step closer to becoming a gentleman. ]

[Can you tell he has nothing better to do right now?]

Then here is another one, but now worth 50 picarats now:

"A poor man was sitting outside a bar when he saw a rich man walk out. The poor man said to the rich man; "I know every song known to man."

The rich man laughed and said; "I bet you all the money in my pocket that you can't sing a song with my daughter's name in it, Sheryl Rivers."

The poor man went home rich and the rich man went home poor. What song did the man sing? Please sing the song that the poor man sang to solve this puzzle."

[ :D ]

[Ciel looks a bit tired and cold, but he's got a faint smile.]

A year is a long time to be here. As much as this world has grown on me, I personally would not like to be here that long. I would begin to feel as if there would never be a way home.

As for your puzzle. I've missed these little mind teasers.

The daughter would be ten years of age, and the father forty.

[ and Layton takes notice of Ciel's condition. ] Are you alright, my boy? You seem a little tired, and yes, while I do greatly enjoy this world, I will like to see London and return once more. [ However, he's doubting whenever if he can leave Johto. Claire, his dead sweetheart, is here and having to leave her again... He's not too sure if he can do that. ]

As for your answer, you are correct. That is fifteen picarats that you have earned today. Will you like a try at another puzzle?

I'm fine. Sebastian and I are journeying through the Ice Caverns currently.

[He too would like to see London again, though admittedly the peacefulness here is quite nice. All that awaits him in London is madness and death. All the same he'd like to get back to it.]

I do wonder how my staff is getting along without me. [It's not a pleasant picture]

However another puzzle would be welcome. I feel I have not challenged my mind enough lately.

Ah, I have heard about how harsh those caverns can be. Do take care, Ciel and staff? [ As in employees? ]

Then here is one that is worth twenty-five picarats this time:

"How many times can you subtract the number five from twenty-five?"

An easy one this time around, hm? I guess that's fair for all the newcomers. [A pause and a relatively harmless chuckle.] To answer your riddle - the father is forty; the daughter, ten.

You are correct. When the daughter is thirty in twenty years, her father will be sixty, being exactly two times older. Very well done, and yes, I always do start off with an easy puzzle when I start my video feed.

Will you like a more difficult one this time around?

If you so choose. I never mind a challenge, after all.

Alright, this one is a little more difficult. Thirty picarats for this one:

"A tree doubles in height each year until it reaches its maximum height over the course of ten years. How many years does it take for the tree to reach half its maximum height?"

Yes, you are correct! With the man being forty, he is four times older than his ten year old daughter. When the man is sixty, he is twice as old as his thirty year old daughter. Very well done, ma'am.

[ Pulling out his notebook to write down the picarats won when-- ] Ah, may I learn of your name? Mine is Professor Hershel Layton.
