Good band, but vile human being as the lead singer. Of course, Jimmy Page and Iggy Pop and a lot of my other favorite musicians are pretty vile people, too. You get a pass for sharing a song that I have not heard. Hurray new music!
Isn't that always the bitch of the thing? Finding out artists/musicians/writers are actually despicable people, if perhaps talented at one or two things. /sigh
I try to focus on the art and not the artist, but its not always easy. For example, I love Bill Cosby's "To Russell, My Brother, Whom I Slept With." I think its one of the greatest comic routines in all of history. But... Bill Cosby has turned out to be such a monster that it makes it hard for me to enjoy it. The routine hasn't changed and Cosby wasn't necessarily the man he's become when he recorded it, but his behavior since then has altered my perception of his material.
So can the art ever be separated from the artist? Well, Wagner's work is pretty well respected these days and he was a proud racist in his time.
Its tough because some of the art from monsters is so good and transcends their monster status.
I'm probably the only person in LJ Idol who has actually seen Wayne Newton live. Don't hate me! When a friend and I were in Vegas my friend wanted to do something totally "vegas" and Wayne was it! Fun entry!
I chose Alanis Morissette because, in the video, she's so vulnerable and so aware of everyone around her. That is very much the way that Thanksgiving was for my family this year.
