Okay. 3 things.

1. Rolling Stones can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. Mick is just who he is, and, to me, that song was no exception. I found it fabulous.

2. Holy crap, I MUST HAVE THAT VAN MORRISON album!!! I laughed my ass off through every song I found... particularly You Say France And I Whistle!. I could totally see me putting that on loop some time, and just vegging on it for hours! Totally reminds me of Richard Cheese.

3. I did manage to get through 1:08 of that video, but my kitty left the room at about 38 seconds. My husband, mamas_minion checked out a few more seconds of it when he came back into the room from a potty break, but we only got 30 more seconds.

I loved everything about this. Thanks so much! :)

Oh, its a good Rolling Stones song, its just that when it was recorded there was no way the record company could release it due to content. A huge FU to their label.

I love Van Morrison's rejected songs. I go around singing Ringworm all the time. There's something magical about singing "ARGHHHWGHW You've got ringworm" at an unsuspecting human.

I am impressed you listened to as much of it as you did. I've listened to the whole bloody thing. Its something I wish I'd never done.

Very enlightening to read about The Cherry Sisters, and that Florence Jenkins clip... just... wow. As for Lou Reed, I wouldn't call it much of a defense, but perhaps as something of an explanation... he was hanging out with Andy Warhol quite a bit at the time.

That is true - being around avant garde artists can sometimes bring out the most frightening in a man. :D

Thank you for reading!

Hahaha! Once again, entertaining, educating, and enlightening. You are the Triple E, lol.

The part about musicians deliberately creating bad albums to fulfill contracts amuses me and wasnt something I knew about. Especially with how witty Van was! Im really interested in checking out that album now lol

The Van Morrison songs aren't great by his standard, but they're all at least silly fun. Ringworm, as you might have guessed, is my favorite.

Nitpick: "contrct dispute." I don't think anyone would mind if you went back and fixed that to "contract." Sorry I didn't catch it earlier :(

I made it through 11 seconds. I wasn't aware this existed. I'm not sure I'm pleased to know it exists ;) It's basically awful to me. Like nails on a chalkboard (except I get delicious sensations from nails on a chalkboard, which is weird I guess? and did not get delicious tingly sensations from this). I guess at a certain point an artist can basically do whatever they want, you know? That is art... but not art the general public has to accept! Thank you for sharing this, even if it's just so I know to avoid it in the future ;)

Thank you so much for catching that! Fixed!

Isn't sound fascinating? Nails on the chalkboard makes me feel nauseous. I know somebody who can't stop laughing after she hears that sound, especially if she does it. I am fascinated how we react so differently!

Thank you for reading and commenting and go team!

Yeah, it's weird... I guess the tingly sensation is a thing? I didn't realize this until just a few months ago... or maybe last year... lemme see if I can find the link. Well, here's one article about it. Honestly the videos I watched don't do much in the way of tingles, not like nails on a chalkboard do, but it's still sorta nice. It's the same tingle I get when I listen to certain music. Which this video you posted most emphatically did not do ;)

And go team!!

Wow, this is a totally new piece of information for me. I'm thrilled that some people experience this and want to create videos of my bright red fingernails folding napkins for 30 minutes now just to make some people's scalps tingle. The human body is amazing!

I'd never heard of artists creating deliberate garbage to fulfill contract obligations. Kind of obnoxious to their fans who mistakenly buy the stuff, though, especially in pre-Internet days when this kind of information isn't widely available.

I made it through about 1:27, and you're right-- it did not get more interesting. I liked your description of the effect. To me, it sounded kind of like listening to a space station slowly coming apart over intrasteller static.

This album would probably fit into the whole John Cage theory of "everything that happens is music because I declare it so." For me, music needs intent. The intent may be interesting sound or melodies or rhythms or emotion, but "stuff that happens" is just... noise. Sometimes it's interesting noise, but it is not, overall, music.

Almost a minute! Then it hit a level of dissonance I couldn't tolerate any longer. And for splitting my head like that... I'm commenting with this... what I consider is one of the most beautiful songs I know..

I've not listened to a whole lot of Steve Vai, but wow he's a gifted guitarist. That is a lovely piece and its a nice antidote for MMM.

I have the exact same issue with John Cage as you. I get him in theory, but dislike him in practice. "4'33" isn't even the worst of it - some of his piece for prepared piano (which do have a certain amount of greater intent) are just as infuriating to me. On the other hand, I love Sonic Youth, who often played their guitars with alternate tunings primarily aimed at making noise. Oh, my brain!

Thank you so much for reading and commenting! And congratulations on making it to 1:27.
