LJ Idol Week #16 - Topic "Why Is That Turkey Dancing?"

Mar 31, 2016 13:19

This is my entry for Week #16 of therealljidolIt has taken me decades, but I've finally reached the point where I can just let myself go and dance like a fool. My style may look like an artless melange of tai chi and myoclonic seizures, but I don't care. When the music starts, get out of the way because I'm going to need a whole lot of space ( Read more... )

Hell yeah for the jive turkey philosophy of dancing like you just don't give a fuck. *salutes*

Also, you seem to have a busted image. The one with the "My mom is in the background. Please notice how stylish she was for the early 70's." caption is showing as a busted image tag and clicking on it leads to a 404.

That's bizarre. The photo is showing up for me. I'll investigate.

Yeah, showing up this time! And no probs, bro. I know the panic of busted image tags and general formatting fuckery with graphics post all too well.

Public dancing, not something I have had a lot of experience with, being kinda shy, self-conscious, and did I say shy. Only had to dance a couple of times at the last family wedding. Whew!

You took me way down memory lane this time. I used to watch the Tony Orlando show. :-)

This was so much fun to read, and that is such a great picture. I'm glad you unleashed your inner dancing demon -- I'm sure those 6th graders didn't realize they were in the presence of an inspired dance genius. This was a great reminiscence, and I enjoyed it so much!

That's my favorite picture of me ever taken. I imagine I look exactly like that now, but 6' tall and 48.

6th graders aren't nearly the monsters that 7th or 8th graders are, but they are learning how to monster. Had I held off with my dancing until high school, I would have been just as awful, but people would have cared less. Heh.

I'm not one of those people who believe everyone *has* to dance. There are plenty of people who just genuinely don't enjoy it. I also think, however, that I'm not the only person who enjoys dancing (and singing) who stopped doing it for many years because people around me discouraged me. Its a shame that so much of growing up is having the joy of music, dance and play kind of shamed out of us!

Hehehehehehe! Look at how ADORABLE you were!!! I wonder...if us audiophiles....have this in common - the amazing complexity of a highend stereo system in their childhoods. I wish I still had my father's amazing system and cabinet with HUGE built-in speakers. I remember, and will always remember, the very first night I put Pink Floyd The Wall on that turntable, the headphones on my head, and lay in the dark....with my skull FILLED TO OVERBRIMMING. Thanks for the memory jog.

And ALWAYS dance like no one is watching -

I am going to steal every dance move from that guy that I can.

I do think that our relative love of things can be shaped in our youth. I had books all around me (and music, of course) and love both. My wife can't understand why I want to have bookshelves full of books. She read, but she's not into it the way I am. Same with music. She didn't grow up in that kind of environment - she sees bookshelves as clutter not as gateways to other worlds.

Anyhow, thank you for reading and commenting!

There can be only one response to this post. Only one. And finally, FINALLY I am in a position to share a song/video with you:

Also, I dance like a turkey and don't care too. I saw TMBG recently and spent the entire evening bouncing. It was a good time. :)

I love the Blue Man group and love this clip.

I have a story about watching TMBG. I went with my then-girlfriend and several dudes in the front formed a mosh pit (!!!). TMBG stopped the show a couple of times to remind the audience that they're really not that kind of band and that a mosh pit seemed pretty silly at their show. My girlfriend had no encountered a mosh pit before so when one of the kids bumped into her, she kicked him with her boot. He gave her such a hurt, sad look after she kicked him. Manners, people!
