I got my new research assignment at the National Archives today: Civil War naval history. Yep, that's the direction. Apparently, I'm trusted enough that all I need is a broad topic and I can go figure out what I want to look at from there. If anybody has any hot Civil War naval history tips, let me know! I could write about things other than my National Archives research, but the only other thing I've got going on right now is a heavy workload at school. Today for the first time I saw and made use of the Central Research Room at the downtown building of the National Archives. Just a few days ago I saw, in a Prologue article, a picture of what I took to be a long-gone research room, back when the building was new in the 1930s.
