holy modpost, batman!

Hello everyone! Apps are opening, and with them the monthly activity check is going up, but first we have some very important announcements to make! There’s even a surprise waiting for you at the end of the post!

-- A page giving extended world information has been created! This covers the function of the Unnatural, information about holidays, and even some tidbits about what your characters see in the mirror.
-- We have updated the Rules/FAQ to make it more user-friendly and to cover several new policies (to be covered in detail in a moment).
-- In addition to the updated FAQ, we have added an Application Guidelines page. Some information that was previously found in the FAQ has been relocated to this page, as well as additional information on the application/acceptance process. This is still somewhat of a work-in-progress as we decide what is and is not relevant, but it’s very helpful even at this stage!

First of all, we would like to ask that everyone take this post as a reminder to reread the Rules/FAQ. In addition to new policies, we have attempted to clarify a few things when it comes to how the game runs and the world of Promenade. To prevent any confusion, please, please read the entire page (in fact, this announcement will still be here if you want to go and do that right now :D). If you are still confused or would like something clarified after reading the FAQ, the new pages, and the rest of this post, then please ask!

New Policies
-- In order to get characters acclimated to Promenade and to give them chances to meet other characters, you must wait two weeks from being accepted before your character moves into their Place of Solace. If there is an issue such as size (Transformers, etc.), please contact one of the mods.
-- A Place of Solace can be changed. This is especially true if you are canon updating. However, do not constantly change places of solace, and please double-check with a mod if you even think it might be a problem.
-- At the moment, characters are only not allowed to dream up the following: buildings, people, and dangerous things (such as nuclear weapons) that could destroy a large part of the city. If you have a question on whether a character would be able to dream something up, would like a specific building in Promenade but aren't sure if there is one, or have an idea that involves destroying part of the city, please contact the mods.
-- If your application is rejected, you must wait until the following month to reapply for that character.

Clarifications
-- NPCs = Non-Player Characters. Don’t play them if they’re anything other than a normal resident and please contact a mod if you want a guard or other NPC in a thread. In addition, if your character is breaking the law or doing something you believe the guards would intrude on, and you would like this to happen, please either contact one of the player character guards (there will be another sign-up after apps close) or a mod so they can send an NPC guard at them.
-- Every room in the houses is like an apartment, containing a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room.
-- PORTALs do mysteriously turn on through no fault of their owners.
-- Mirror = first-person view, not third-person. The characters may see their hands or, if they’re looking down, feet, but they do not actually see their entire bodies.
-- The masks are for public places and when using the PORTAL. Just because you’re using the PORTAL from inside doesn’t mean you can’t get in trouble for not wearing your mask.
-- Plagiarism is not tolerated, whether it is on an application or a post. If you plagiarize part of your application, you will be rejected automatically. If you plagiarize the entire thing, you will be rejected and will be unable to apply for that character again.
-- Posts made by a character are tagged "*character name: canon name" and posts commented on by characters are tagged "character name: canon name". These tags are created by the players, though we ask that you stick with this format.

Are you ready for your surprise now, Promsters? :D

As a reward for sitting through all of that, we are pleased to unveil the next big event to hit Promenade. As requested, we will be having a Ten Years Later event from June 22nd at 12:01 am EST until June 28th at 11:59 pm EST. In addition to the event itself, the post kicking it off will reveal something to the residents of Promenade that they were previously unaware of.

From June 22-28, everyone and everything in Promenade will be ten years in the future. They will have no idea that they have suddenly time-skipped and will have memories of their past ten years in the city. Physical aging will be handled by mun discretion through the idea of mental aging. For example, a character who undergoes significant growth or believes they should age would age ten years. A character who is fairly set in their ways or doesn’t think about aging would still be the same age they were the day before the event. While characters will have memories of the past ten years in the city, there may be some changes. If you would like, your character can A: keep some memories, but only a few from their world; B: keep all of their memories, but only have them appear in a haze (you know something is off, something about here isn’t right, and that you might not belong here. In fact, you might even have a voice in the back of your head saying this isn’t your home. But when you try to find out why... it’s mostly fog. You get faces and shadows and silhouettes and fleeting images of places, but nothing solid); or C: lose their memories entirely, and think they’ve been here all along. If you don’t want your characters memories to be effected, that’s fine, too! In addition, characters have the option to have gone home or to be locked in the Unnatural. These characters will not participate in the event, though we do ask that you let people know if you decide to do this and the circumstances, if any, so they can plan accordingly. Once the event ends, characters will have all of their memories from the Ten Years Later event and any memories they might have been missing during the event.

Please make use of the next month to plan out what may have happened between characters during ten years in Promenade! We will be putting up a plotting post after applications close so that new players/characters can get involved in the planning as well.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask one of the mods or comment on this post. Thanks for reading, and we hope you’re enjoying Il Promenade!
