Shop 'til You Drop

They're all basically the same, no matter which company owns them. They look similar both inside and out. Mostly the same stores pop up in each one - Sears, Hot Topic, Hallmark. The landscaping is usually different from region to region, though, and here you'll find palm trees and elephant ears, while in Tennessee you might find dogwoods. And the ( Read more... )

I don't like malls any more than you do. They're kind of slices of overcrowded hell, really. And the genericism doesn't help!

But then I think of one mall I really liked when I was younger, and that was for its non-mall feature: The Lloyd Center in Portland had (has?) an ice-skating rink at least part of the year, and it was the only place in town that did. Those were the days. :)

I've often wondered if malls are designed as labyrinths as well! Especially large department stores. Glad that I'm not the only one who has a hard time with them.

I hate Malls and will go out of my way to avoid them. If I can find it on line, I save the gas! This was a good read. Thanks for penning. Peace~~~D

I like small malls. There are not too many of them anymore. There used to be two in my area, one was kind of like a community watering hole. It's gone. They turned it into a strip mall.

There is a mammoth mall. Used to be two right next to each other, so naturally they joined them. It's been twenty years, at least, since I went there. Too many people, stores, muzak, and noise. Wait! That's what you wrote!

Great take on the prompt.

My dream mall would just be book stores and munchie stands.

I wanted to chime in on this. Not a lot of small malls left around here either, but the ones that remain have been here since the early 60s and all of them are pretty great. I can handle a large mall if I really have to, but goodness, I wouldn't choose to face those crowds if it could be avoided.

Yes!

For me, it's sensory overload. Too much of everything and I can never find anything. Exhausting!

I believe that malls are designed that way -- I think the concept is called "opportunity walks." I share your opinion of malls.
